| RHeastings (22), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | September 8, 2009 I have had the good fortune to have enjoyed many many pints and several good meals at Fatheads over the past several years; at different times of the day on weekdays and weekends. The place is always brightly lit and clean; and usually carries a fairly loud din from the many drinkers and diners there. The beer selection includes around 42 taps that carry something new every few days, and rotate in full about every three weeks. They also carry a decent selection of 750ml and 22oz bottles, although these are more limited, and quite expensive. Beers are somewhat expensive, but not insane. The food is very nicely priced, and comes in huge portions. One entree or sandwich is enough for two people. Depending on when you go, the place is pretty kid-friendly, and the staff is reasonably attentive, especially given how busy it often is. Overall, a must-try in the Pittsburgh area. | Sincerely (7), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2009 Where I go if I want a draught beer. Always good selection which rotates often. Recently they’ve been had a bunch (too many) of their own Fat Head beers on tap. Food is huge, and greasy. Service is generally good and often times cute. Good place to have a few.
-Sincerely | | Fatumsch (15), | | July 21, 2009 Pretty good beer selection. Really good wings. If you want to create a China Syndrome in your body, get the Nuclear Wings. | | cheapdark (65), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania | | October 9, 2008 Lunchtime on a wenesday. Interesting place down on the southside. Loaded with people but I didn’t have any trouble finding a spot at the bar. Big easy to read bar tap menu. Had no trouble finding something I haven’t tasted before. Small high ceiling warehouse type feel inside. Help was very friendly but the prices were a little high for this country boy. $8 for a micro draft of Moylan’s. Lots of good food going around but I didn’t have any. Large crowd noise inside but the music was subdued. Parking is not the most pleasant of situations. If you hit this place, why not do Smoken Joes and Piper’s pub too? | | KornDogg (20), Lancaster, Pennsylvania | | October 5, 2008 One of my fav places to go in Pittsburgh... unfortunately they don’t usually have drink specials so it can get a little expensive. Nice business crowd, people come in wearing suits or casual... I give the food a 10 because it is absolutely amazing... wide variety of burgers and sandwiches... very difficult to pick just one meal... If they had a happy hour special I prob would have been there almost every day.... | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | September 3, 2008 My wife and I met up with illinismitty and mtoast for a couple beers here on a Tuesday night. The bar is typically packed around dinner time, so Sean suggested that we hit the bar after 8:30 or so once things cleared out. Plenty of seating, really great attentive (and knowledgeable) bartender, and solid selection of beers on tap. Fresh Green Flash West Coast, three different Lindemans (I’m ticking sours), a rare Oskar Blues pilsener, two house-made beers (one from Rogue, and one from a Belgium brewery), and plenty of other excellent stuff. The wings (my first taste of chicken in more than 3 years) hit the spot, and more than one person recommended trying the wings there. Decent, up-to-date bottle selection (Pumking, one or two JP bottles, lots of other Southern Tier and Stone stuff). Good selection of bottles to-go upstairs as well, although the prices are pretty high (perhaps that’s just the general welcome-to-PA sticker shock). We’ll definitely stop back here again next time we’re in town. | | branspra (15), Arlington, Virginia | | September 2, 2008 One of the best beer bars in America! I used to live in Pittsburgh and travel frequently there for business. Every time I take someone there, it immediately becomes one of their favorite beer places. Taps always rotate and bartenders are consistently knowledgeable of the beers. Prices are surprising low, even for Pittsburgh. Food cannot be matched although not healthy - but why would it be? Cannot be beat. | Foam (7), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | July 14, 2008 Great food - huge portions and that’s what comes to mind first about this touristy / suburbanite haven on Carson street ... Expect a very long wait usually , again its very high on the list of must see places I guess for out of town people and McMansion suburbanites looking to have a city experience (or something ...) I love the ’headwich’ sandwiches ... I almost can’t finish one ... I love that ... too many places give you tiny portions anymore .... They have the chalkboard up on the wall with all the currently tapped beers ...as well as the ABV which is nice ... But ... again here, we have the problem of not nearly enough space ... very cramped ... people bumping into you all the while and loud loud LOUDDDD ... wear earplugs ... | | jasonp (28), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia | | April 27, 2008 This place was awesome. COME HUNGRY and expect to feel full for the next 24 hours. Along with my friends, I got to try the Artery Clogger sandwhich, bacon cheese fries, fried pierogies and the South Side Slopes sandwhich - HUGE sandwiches - just extremely fattening and delicious. It was busy as fuck, so the service was a tad slow but our server was nice so...who cares -I’m low maintenance anyway. Onto the beer, I had a ridiculously fresh batch of Green Flash West Coast IPA on tap, I was so damn full from the food I didn’t check out their bottle selection. Good tap selection of approx 20-25 beers, I forgot. Check out their bottle shop upstairs too, very good. No smoking too! | DragonsHead (6), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | March 9, 2008 Fantastic! I’ve always enjoyed Fathead for the beers but just recently ate there for the first time. I have a buffalo chicken sandwich with carribean killer sauce. KICKED MY ASS!! I love this place. Only wish there would’ve bee something better on cask this time. |
