| zizzybalubba (36), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | December 13, 2009 Excellent downtown location in a very cool building. Very large dining area with a long bar in the back. There is also a room upstairs that was hosting a party on the night I went. The food was excellent. The beers ranged from above average to excellent. The prices were very reasonable. The staff seemed well-informed and overall happy to be there. A must for beer enthusiasts and an excellent choice for dining even if beer is not your thing. | | nickd717 (25), Palo Alto, California | | September 2, 2009 Solid joint. I went here at 7pm on a Sunday night with my friend who was trying to go out and "beat it up" (the way he refers to meeting a nice, respectable young woman at a social establishment and returning with her to his residence for a rather enjoyable evening). He remarked, "Come on! This place is dead!" No shit, Sherlock, it’s a Sunday night, and early still. For comparison, the Deac’n Dive afterwards had a total of 3 people in it, all over the age of 60. Anyway, I digress. They had 8 beers on tap here. Some were rather pedestrian, but the others were pretty good. Seeing Double IPA was best, People’s Porter was second. Our server was very responsive and gave us the lowdown on the Sexual Chocolate release. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with a side of mac ’n cheese, which was good. Some menu items were a little overpriced but the beer prices were very reasonable. Pretty nice atmosphere, besides the fact that it is not a rockin’ party on a Sunday evening. Big place and nice setup though. Like Arnold says, I’ll be back (if I find myself in the area). | | HoosBrews (10), North Carolina | | August 6, 2009 Great beer, great food, and great people. This is a must visit for folks in the Winston area. The Seeing Double IPA and the People’s Porter were my top choices. Bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. Food was wonderful. NC needs more brewpubs like Foothills! | | nearbeer (100), Knoxville, Tennessee | | July 28, 2009 Nice downtown brewpub with a good selection of 8-10 house brews and just ok service when they got busy from 8-11 PM while i was there. Nice college age crowd for a Thursday night. Had 7 beers and they varied from average to very good. Didnt have any food but it looked pretty good.
| | CaptainCougar (139), Rockville, Maryland | | June 14, 2009 Went here for Sexual Chocolate day in 2008. The owners rolled out the red carpet for us and let us have a gathering in the upstairs. The food here is pretty good and the staff is pretty knowledgeable and passionate about beer. Good number and selection of homemade beers on tap. A nice brewpub. | | TaktikMTL (141), Montréal-Nord, Quebec | | April 7, 2009 vers 19h30. (129e rating d’établissement) | | Stine (59), St. Paul , Minnesota | | March 12, 2009 A somewhat typical huge-ish brewery atmosphere. Not an overly pleasant place to hang out, really. A good variety of beers on tap, some were impressive, some were not, but they seemed to show strengths in disparate types of brews, which is positive. Food was pretty average. I was somewhat bored here. It’s not hard for a brewpub to do something exceptional. Foothills only offered one beer outside the typical blonde/pils/pale/IPA/brown/porter/stout progression, which was a double IPA. So the flavors of this place were just extremely typical, and unexciting. It was fine though. Some of those boring beers were pretty good really. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 5, 2009 Visited early afternoon on a weekday, which was nice as the place had only a few of the regulars.
Both the bartender and the wife of the brewmaster were overwhelmingly friendly, helpful and informative. They were flexible with the sampler so I could get a taste of everything.
Beers ranged from very solid to very good. Nothing disappointed, and there was a wide range of styles. The menu looked reasonably inexpensive, and good, but I did not eat. Highly recommended place.
Parking could be a pain. There is a garage across the street, but I walked from City Liquors, so I don’t know details. Nice ambience inside... the place is huge but at the same time the bar area seems intimate. Excellent place, and I’m glad I stopped by. | | tjthresh (77), Greenfield, Indiana | | February 20, 2009 I visited for Sexual Chocolate weekend 2009. Spent some time in the bar Friday evening. They allow smoking. Not good. They had like 12 beers on tap. Dark lighting with a huge wood bar. Plenty of seating. Everybody was nice. Saturday afternoon I sat in the dining room for lunch. Naturally lit with plenty of tables. The server was attentive, but seemed frazzeled. Had an ostrich burger. I didn’t care for it, but points for serving ostrich. Not the best place in the world, but I’ll certainly be back. | | timsilvia32 (37), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina | | February 8, 2009 In a nice enough area of downtown. Nice woody interior, fairly common for a brew pub. Nice large open atmosphere. The beers are definetely the reason to come here. Excellent collection of about 8 brews. Had no issue with the service, but I sat at the bar. One of the better places in NC for sure and worth checking out. |
