NPRugby11 (3), New York does not count - explanation | | July 29, 2009 New Paltz’s famed brewpub, you walk in and dine in a very open room in full site of the brewing operation. The beers are pretty good but the food is outstanding. On the negative the service is really hit or miss, either you get an excellent waitress or a bad one, there’s no real middle ground. Value is decent though a bit pricy if you’re a student, other than that it’s a great place to have a meal and a beer | | CUJO (19), Brooklyn, New York | | July 15, 2009 I believe the main reason my rating is higher than most is "value". The pricing was very reasonable, however is comparative... the food and drinks here compared to NYC are in a totally different price class. Anyways... place was very clean and bright, built around their well maintained equipment, at all times showcasing their operations. The service was prompt and friendly... the food was excellent. The beer selection was pretty good... the brews were very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone. | | Maltajo (19), TARRYTOWN, New York | | April 20, 2009 This is a great looking place but it is lacking in good beer and food for that matter. Just not up there with other places in the great state of New York. Service is good and the place is clean. Try it. | HIBEERMAN (8), Rhinecliff, New York does not count - explanation | | January 12, 2009 i always buy a growler and a glass when i go. i try to visit two to three times a year. i always stock my cellar with Growling Otters for summer entertaining. With just 5 year round beers you know what to expect and the specials are out of this world. Thats what makes the Gilded Otter special | | SpringsLicker (89), Tennessee | | January 12, 2009 Service here was dreadful.
I’ll try it again although the beers are at best decent, but not word class.
The food is o.k. | | j12601 (64), Poughkeepsie, New York | | October 11, 2008 The interior is wonderful. Big open spaces and wood everywhere. Warm and inviting without being cluttered. Ample parking so that even when you walk in to a packed house and are looking at a wait to get a table, you didn’t have to wait for a parking spot.
They offer a beer sampler for those who haven’t been before, and even for those who have, as they offer a larger selection of brews, and changing seasonal brews than some other brew pubs. Going with someone who doesn’t do the beer thing very much, it was nice to find that they also have 22 oz bottles of hard cider available (though personally, I’d love to see it on tap).
The menu does contain the typical brewpub menu, but it also stretches a bit beyond that offering such oddities as a vegan tofu stuffed ravioli, jambalaya, pad thai, a trout mousse, and a meatloaf sandwich.
Their pizzas are fairly solid and utilize spent grain from the brewing process which is a nice thematic addition.
Service is generally pretty good, though I have had one meal there that the service was totally lacking, and a party member was served fried mozzarella that was still frozen inside, but that was a few years back, and I haven’t had bad service since then. | | PilsnerPeter (95), Flushing, New York | | August 10, 2008 Came here when visiting friends in Newburgh. Place reminds me of a ski-lodge in Colorado. Some light colored wood exposure and lots of windows. There are some exposed fermenters (that aren’t in use) Bartenders aren’t knowledgeable, but can recite the generic beer descriptions from the menu. You can order The Beer Garden, which is a sampler of eight 3oz servings of what’s currently available. I believe it was around $7.50 for that. I also had chips with awesome guacamole, chili, and the French fries are good. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their dishes. The beers are very average. Out of the ones I sampled I enjoyed the Altbier the most. A decent place, with OK beers, nothing great. Good for a Sunday lunch, fair prices, overall. | | grandet (13), Scranton, Pennsylvania | | May 18, 2008 Very nice place. Beers were enjoyable and affordable. Decient sized menu and very good food. Very good pricing. | | Bungalo22 (22), Bridgeport, Connecticut | | February 19, 2008 [ Updated May 10, 2008 ] A very nice place, with some really good micro-drafts [their own] and follow it up with some hardy American fare,
| | yobdoog (92), Woodridge NY, New York | | February 5, 2008 Really cool looking place. I love the skilodge look with the brew tanks at arms length away. They tend to change the tap selection a lot and keep the previously brewed beers carved on wooden boards hanging on the walls. The wait staff is always friendly and you can get a sampler at the tables or the bar. The food is always really good and you sure do have a lot to choose from. Not regular bar food either, they have plenty of entres for the family and beyond. As much as summery beers are not really my thing the Blueberry they do in the summer is tastey and they even put fresh bluberries in the pint glass for garnish. |
