| chriso (161), London, England | | October 16, 2009 [ Updated November 24, 2009 ] The basement location gives this place more atmosphere that the average chain brewpub. Although it is a pretty big place the layout creates several areas and prevents it from seeming like a big barn. I’ve only been during the afternoon and had a beer and a snack at the bar, so don’t know what the evening atmosphere or full food menu is like. Very convenient location for Harvard. Beers are solid if unspectacular and had changed quite significantly over two visits a week apart (although I could have just been fortunate with the timing). | | daknole (90), Plantation, Florida | | August 14, 2009 Rub shoulders with the smartest people on earth(supposedly) and drink good beer. students, teachers, tourists...good times. | | Pipper (27), Ohio | | July 27, 2009 Very centrally located in Harvard Square. Dark wood interior with large space. Went in for lunch on a Monday and it was very quiet. Food was alright, I ordered the quesadillas and a house salad and wasn’t really impressed by either, same went for the beer. Had maybe 4 brews on tap at the time and 1 cask of their bitter. I’m sure it’s one of those must-stops for some but I would much rather spend my money and time somewhere else in the area with better beer, food and atmosphere. | | phaleslu (88), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 17, 2009 Harvard Square area. Low-lit, spacious, downstairs brewpub. Good food and decent value. Growlers available to go. Don’t expect great service; you’d think they would want to flip tables faster because of the crowds it can draw, but I guess not. | | ajm (161), Los Angeles, California | | February 15, 2009 A five dollar pint in Cambridge = fantastic. Great dimly lit, well-tabled spacious pub. Right by the T, which is so fetch. Styles are really on-point, and beat really any chain brewery that I can thik of after two pints. Will go again whenever in town. | | CharlesDarwin (144), Point Judith, Rhode Island | | May 15, 2008 I like the look of the place and the Harvard influence. A nice motif. The service we had was terrible, really slow. The selection is brewpub standard, but maybe a little low. Food was mediocre. Overall, okay. | | gws57 (86), Saint Charles, Illinois | | October 14, 2007 [ Updated January 24, 2008 ] Dark and religious, just like I enjoy my brewpubs. Seriously, awesome patron saints like Teddy Roosevelt, Jack Kennedy and some guy (sorry, I’m not local) who plays for the Bruins in beautiful stained glass. The Red Sox game was on so our server was distracted, and the selection wasn’t great (only five on draught, but they were all above average.) Did not eat the food. Overall, the ambience is worth the trip alone. | | stegosaurus (34), Levittown, Pennsylvania | | September 24, 2007 Not a bad little brewpub to grab lunch at, and enjoy some brews. Good service, the food was decent. And the brews were somewhat enjoyable. If i were to go back, i would try a different season. | | MadIndian (15), Levittown, Pennsylvania | | September 24, 2007 Went their with Stegosaurus on our second boston beer tour. Comfortable place with fast service. People seemed friendly. They have their own beers on tap and while they are nothing to brag about, it wasn’t too bad. It gave me about 4-5 new beers to rate. We got our check just as it was getting packed and I think that was a good thing. | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | July 29, 2007 Big basement place well located in a lively part of town. I didn’t care for the sport-bar type of atmosphere. Brewpub and TVs set on sport channels don’t do it for me. And the TVs are all around the place. Visually it is a very clean almost student and family friendly sport bar and sonically it was annoying pop/dance music. Not for me. Beer selection was 7 taps and one cask of their own beers. Don’t know about bottle menu, if any. Beer quality was nothing great but still very acceptable. Worth a stop for the beer only. For the typical beer-geek (like me) I highly recommend to stop by during the after-noon because the place is actually very nice and warm but the busy night ambiance will turn off most true pub-crawlers. |
