| dmac (27), Toms River, New Jersey | | July 30, 2009 This is my new go to store. I have been coming here for about two years now but within the last two months this place has made some serious improvements. First off almost everything is priced now which makes picking out bottles that much easier. The beers now are arranged by style and the beer section has grown to include an endcap with lots of new arrivals on it. They are now starting to carry craft beer kegs too. Service used to be nonexistant but it looks like a new beer lover or two have been hired and I have even been offered help on my last two trips. As for prices I have found a few bottles badly mispriced, sometimes this works in your favor othertimes not....I don’t think they will have any luck moving 22oz bombers of Southampton Imperial Porter at $13.99 each but I stocked up on Ballast Point bombers when they were just $2.75 each!!! | waltv (4), brielle, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | May 5, 2009 great selection but very high prices. if money is not a worry this is your one stop shop for beer. griecos across the street sells kegs. six packs and cases at a much more reasonable price, although without the large selection. | | willblake (61), Belcamp, Maryland | | November 16, 2005 [ Updated January 3, 2006 ] My local, < 2 miles from home. Used to be the best w/in 5 miles and had a few rarities, but not any more. Until recently, beer was kept in great shape. Then the store underwent a renovation (still in the works) and the worst occurred - coolers. All beer is now kept ice-cold in very bright light. Bad things are happening to hoppier beers. OTOH, I’ve bought Orval which have been great, etc. This place had been my go-to but is now hit-or-miss. Selection is fairly broad with fair representation of East Coast brands incl Clipper City, Avery, UK & Belgie bottles, and a rotation of seasonals; it’s 1/10 of Spirits in Red Bank, but still the place to go if you’re in Manasquan, Brielle, Brick, or Pt. Pleasant.
Staff? Most are cheerful and pleasant. However, occasionally be prepared for a bucket load of attitude taken out on you and your bottles. I’ve never been asked if I needed assistance, despite spending upwards of 15 minutes in the beer aisle on any given trip.
The store has value to me only because it’s close by, and the prices are very fair, even cheap. I’m hoping that the bad beers I’ve gotten recently are not a sign of things to come. I didn’t add the place myself, as it’s borderline worthy of including here, especially with Spirits in Red Bank only 15 minutes away.
Update: Things are looking up, I’ve upped my score. |
