4 reviews for Main Tap Tavern
| Naven (54), Poway, California | | September 19, 2009 Let’s be honest, El Cajon is a Sh*t hole. Yet, every god forsaken morning, I get up and travel to El Cajon to my office. Main Tap is a shining beacon of light in an otherwise grim bar scene in El Cajon. The place is clean, and comfortable, and the bartenders are friendly, which seems to be a rarity in beer geek bars these days. The taps are very good, although this is certainly not to the level of Hamiltons or Toronado, but it doesn’t appear as though they are trying to be. They have a full bar, which is nice, and they even have some crap taps for those not quite initiated into the world of craft beer. Nice patio for smoking or lounging out back too. Food was a little greasy, but not bad. Really solid prices, especially during happy hour. All in all, a nice little spot. | | mjg74 (41), La Mesa, California | | October 9, 2008 Nice looking place with a good selection of taps for this part of town. I arrived right at opening, so I was the only one there. Quick friendly service. I’ll definitely be back from time to time, as it’s only a about ten minutes from my house. | | padrefan98 (34), (San Diego) Santee, California | | October 1, 2008 Fordest and I checked this place out on a Thursday night. The bar and pool table area is well lit and very clean. The service was a bit slow but we received our beers with a smile. The selection was ok. The female bartender was knowledgable, but gave us the typical response (I don’t make the rules) when asked about the glass sizes. Mostly locals but Chouffe and Allagash was a nice surprise. I am a little concerned with the tap lines cause the brews tasted a little dusty. As for the low value score, I was dissapointed in the 8 oz glasses for $5.50. Most bars in San Diego are serving the Belgians in 10oz or more glasess. This place has lots of potential. I understant the necessity to have BMC on tap but I didn’t see too many pitchers of that bieng ordered. Lots of Whiskey and cokes. For the most part if they keep the website up to date this could become a favorite for that last minute check to see who has the best thing on tap for the night. Side note...The patio was quite confy with a nice circular fire pit table. | | fordest (62), Santee/San Diego, California | | September 26, 2008 Nice new place in East County. Definitely closest place to my house. It’s about time. Decent selection. Had Allagach Fluxus, Imperial Gonzo, Some Oskar Blues, Lightning and Coronado stuff. Crowd is a bit typical El Cajon, but then they do have a bit too much Macro stuff. Service was a little slow, maybe they didn’t expect to be that busy tonight. Didn’t try the food, although the menu looked pretty good. |
