This place is all about the beer, right down to the smell. I loved it though. They had a great range of their beers on tap. The bartender really didn’t say much to us just a few head nods but that was OK, It was an eclectic crowd in there. They sell growlers of their beer and bottle. They are also priced really great. The best brewery I have been to in VT hands down.

Great brewpub with an english pub feel. The bartenders seemed a little snobby on the few occasions that I’ve been there, but, they were definitely knowledgable. Good selection of beers, however, they neve seemed to have any of their most sought after beers on when I was there. Great place to visit if you make it to southeastern Vermont.

Numerous selections. Their amber is one of the best I’ve ever had.

A wierd town and a wierd bar, certainly worth the visit. Second week in July, and more people smoking outside than drinking inside. Hot inside. A freaked-out bartenderess. Three taps, and a cask. Alabama trucker meets New England. Jazz music played to blue collar. Ancient bar and tables and chairs. I heard they were robbed recently. That would explain a lot. Basic bar food. Cheap, and quick pours. Still, I would like a lot more taps. A few handpour bottles in the cooler. Not worth a long drive, say 3.5 hours from Burlington. 40 minutes from Western Mass? No problem, in daylight.

Had a nice evening here. Tried a few pints of different offerings, both on tap and cask, and had the chips and salsa (great stuff). Interesting people all over, and had a great convo with a local named Bill. Took home 4 bottles of their brew. Definately a cool place to stop if in Brattleboro. Nice atmosphere and good beer.

I really liked this place. Friendly locals (mostly younger hippie/punk looking crowd). The service was adequate. Easy going simple atmosphere with long tables and comfy chairs. Didnt have any food, but it was cheap and seemed edible. All the beers I had were fantastic; an imperial stout and imperial IPA were standouts, and my girlfriend liked the blonde ale. Between McNeills, the co-op, and the great off-beat shopping, I’ll definately be heading up to Brattleboro soon.

It’s all about the beer. If your looking for fancy food, fancy surroundings or beautiful people DON’T BOTHER. If you appreciate great beer made by someone that knows what he’s doing this place is a moral imperative. Keep up the good work Ray. Worth the travel to visit.

Visited McNeill’s on a Saturday night for the second time on 02.24.07. First visit was great, there were about 12 beers on tap, including the Imperial Stout. This trip however, was a big dissapointment. There were only 5 beers on tap and they were the more ordinary brews. They did have their IPA on cask which was good, but not much else. I am hoping that McNeill’s isn’t slipping. As far as the atmosphere, long tables with wooden chairs creates a communal type of atmosphere usually not seen in this country. If you are looking for a more upscale, typical type of place in Brattleboro go to the Flat Street pub.

This place is a comfy, little dive but the beer is good and cheap. A English lady was knitting and drinking pints. The town has a great CD shop and there is another quality pub in town Flat Street.

This is a brewer’s dive bar. Go here, drink their fantastic beer, and quit yer bitchin’. $3 pints of probably just abuot the best beer in the northeast. Can you really complain?
