19 reviews for Monk’s Café Wallingatan
| gyllenbock (19), Stockholm, Sweden | | November 15, 2009 The first time I visited Monks I was greatly disappointed. The staff was not good, many of the beers was not available. The food was ok, if slightly expensive.
My last visit in November 2009 was much better. All the beers that my friends and I ordered was available. The staff was quite good and knowledgeable. I will visit this place again but there are better places in Stockholm. | | Rune (87), Tromsř, Norway | | September 9, 2009 On my way to Linköping I stopped for late lunch at this place located not more than about ten minutes walk from the central railway station in Stockholm. I have never been here before, and my visit turned out to be a very pleasant experience. In a couple of hours I had a freshly made Caesar Salad with chicken and bacon, three of their own brews – a delicious Orange ale, a fine weissen called Pauline and the splendid Patagonia IPA – and two bottles from their impressive beer list. The focus of the week was on Big Beers from the USA. Just like heaven for a ratebeerian. Irreproachable service, cosy atmosphere and relaxing. It is rather expensive and most of the beers are served in rather large amounts, so be sure to bring some friends for rating purposes (visited 01.09.2009) | | plovmand (24), Helsinge, Denmark | | September 8, 2009 Quite a big place with lots of refrigerators stuffed with different kind of beers. Lots of noise from all the other guests eating but if you visit the place in the afternoon it may be much cosier. The staff I talked to didnt now too much about the beers and they were all served too cold. They were very kind though. The selection is one of a kind. With more than 1500 beers on the menu there should be a good chance to find something extraordinary. At the time I was there they had more than 400 different American beers including Bells Kalamazoo Stout, Bear Republic Racer X and Vicotry Horizontal. Beers that are hard to find anywhere else in Europe. Some requests was not available anymore even though they had it on there website which was a shame. The food was ok. Some Swedish dishes among international. Prices was regluar compared to the rest of Stockholm. | | Brosa (10), , Sweden | | September 2, 2009 Might have caught this place at a particular bad day but I was quite unimpressed. After hearing a lot about their wide selection and reading their extensive menus I got numerous turn downs on my orders as "that beer is not currently available". Either you have them or you don’t, just print menus after what’s really available instead of some alibi wishlist. | | finol (11), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden | | July 6, 2009 Usaly quite easy to get a seat dispite the small bar area.
The selection is wide but I get the feeling that with some exeptions (De Molen, Goose Island) the owner preferes to get 10 random lagers just because they represent a special contry than to make their homework and offer the best from a smaller number of places...
The knowledge and interest of the staff is not meeting the expectations (in most cases) | | baggio (19), norrtälje, Sweden | | June 2, 2009 This is a place i keep coming back to mainly because they do get ahold of alot of interesting beers. Some of the bartenders know what they’re doing while others are just plain ignorant. Nice draught-selection and huuuge bottle-selection. Food is ok even if it is a bit pricey. Good size portions. Make sure to try their own-beers, some are quite good and they are brewed by a very friendly and professional brewmaster. | | rickgordon (33), Göteborg, Sweden | | May 24, 2009 Huge draught selection. Great beers brewed within the premises, by a award winning brewmaster. Very friendly, knowledgeable service. Good, bit pricey food. Like all pubs around the globe, avoid rush-hours, that is weeknights 20.00-24-00. Simple task, ey? | | hirigalzkar (13), Stockholm, Sweden | | May 22, 2009 Ambitious place! Brews it’s own beer. Sells bottled beer from all around the world, not all of them very good. You sometimes gets the impression that the large ammount of beer is more important than the quality of the brews. The quality varies. The staff is sometimes arrogant. | Frovigalning (2), , Sweden does not count - explanation | | February 21, 2009 The ambiance is quite nice although not what Im looking for in a pub such as this, it feels a bit to snooby for my taste. The main drawback of this place is the service. Some of the bartenders are allright but some of the waiters and bartenders are both cluless and a bit arrogant. I have been here several times and on most visits Ive had issues with the service. The selection is really nice though, they should get some extra points for this. Both lots to choose from but also their own brewery with some great home brewers at the rodder. Here is the future that I believe Monks can grow on. The food is a bit mixed, some dishes are great and some are just ok. The prices are the same as similar pubs in Stockholm. Overall a mixed experience. If you plan a visit I recomend just seating yourself at the bar as the service is better and you should go here for the beer and not the food. But Monks is on the right path and defenitely worth a visit if you come to stockholm. Also worth mentioning again: Its the only brewery | OHscar (3), , Sweden does not count - explanation | | January 10, 2009 Great selection of bottled beers. The staff is friendly and helpful but sometimes a bit slow. The food is ok but not the reason to go here. |
