| voota (92), Melbourne, Australia | | September 3, 2009 Pretty up-market kind of place in the centre of Sydney. Good range of beers (though a little bit hit & miss) and great quality food. Fairly pricy. Worth a visit if in Sydney. | | abemorsten (14), Randaberg, Norway | | July 15, 2009 I went with my wife back in April 2008. This place is beer heaven. They brew their own beer with flying colors. They serve a variety of dishes made with beer and these dishes are matched with beers. Food was excellent. The uniformed staff is interested in beer; they are eager to tell you the how’s and why’s of the brewing and the beer-food-matching and they seem happy and proud to be working there.
The atmosphere is maybe a bit "high establishment", meaning you may want to dress up a bit if you’ve been running around town in your most comfy tourist outfit all day. It’s also a bit on the pricey side.
But all worth it and highly recommended! | | NoiZe (49), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands | | June 21, 2009 Nice, clean brew pub. Seated and bar tables. 2 tanks in the pub. Nice selection, fair price. Food was not that good. | | chicagodri (36), Chicago, Illinois | | February 8, 2009 This was a very nice place to stop by while I was in Sydney. I liked it better than Lord Nelson’s. Solid food, and the service was great...even recommending a lot of other brewpubs we should try while we were in the area. Solid beer. I enjoyed it. | | nate2g (151), Brisbane, Australia | | November 29, 2008 [ Updated July 10, 2009 ] I had a good experience here though was disappointed with what was offered on the taps when I was there. The Baltic Porter & Oatmeal stout were delicious (albeit served way too cold) and the food was well matched to the styles. The barman was very knowledgeable and helpful, though another downside is the pricing is at the higher end. | | bluevegie (29), Perth, Australia | | March 3, 2008 Went for the beer dinner and the food was well matched although all the beer was served too cold. Atmosphere was good and the staff were knowledgable. | kempicus (5), Wellington, New Zealand does not count - explanation | | February 11, 2008 Not a bad place, the bar staff were really helpful and knowledgeable but i did feel a bit let down by the beer. For the price they charge i expected better than better to average homebrew. | | TimE (130), Tokyo, Japan | | December 21, 2007 I was simply amazed at the number of beers on tap (26) when I was there and they said they get up to 35 beer. Damn. Atomosphere could be any semi-upscale urban restaurant/pub, nice.
The crowd is definetely the urban professionals and prices reflect that. The beers were a bit more hit and miss than I thought, with a possible infection problem in some. The rauch had butterscotch, which was strange. However, their well known beers like the Baltic Porter were amazing. We met the brewer’s sister and she was wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgable. I really enjoyed talking with her. Overall, this is a great place that I will be back to in Sydney. Wish they pulled out the hand pump more often, but still a must stop on Sydney tour.
| | Pyobon (11), Sydney, Australia | | December 14, 2007 Very friendly and helpful staff - indeed I don’t think I have vere been in a pub with staff more eager to engage in detailled discussion of the beer. The atmosphere is a little antispetic in terms of decor and style, but on the other hand it is also a a place that beer enthusiasts search out. I didn’t actually try the food, but it looked excellent. The selection of Redoak’s own beers is awesome. Perhaps there is too much emphasis on the fruit beers - whilst the Framboise is lovely, the others I tried did not work for me - then again, the choice is much wider than this. The only downside is that it is astronomically expensive. | | SledgeJr (79), Omaha, Nebraska | | December 3, 2006 This was the first place that we visited upon arriving in Sydney. If I had known how tough it is to find a good beer in Australia, I would have appreciated my beer here more. As it was, the quality of the beer here in no way compares to the best brewpubs I have visited in other countries. However, from the elitist arrogant attitude of the woman serving us, you would have thought that they invented beer at this place. Extremely pompous and ridiculously overpriced, this was a disappointing first beer visit in Oz. The pub area was as sterile as a tissue culture hood. They refuse to sell you a sampler without you pairing it with their self-indulgent little food trays. The place is generally a scam and you will be disappointed because everywhere else in this entire country the Australians are the nicest, most genuine people on the planet. This was our only negative beer experience in the whole country. Since the people at Redoak obviously think more about their beers here than you possibly ever could, let them keep their beer and avoid this place. |
