| Brewman63 (25), , | | November 21, 2009 After reading so many good things about this place we decided to check it out and are glad (and sad) we did. Glad because it lived up to everything everyone has said about the place: great beer, great food, great service. Sad because it isn’t closer (I’ll take it in my neighborhood anyday). It’s about a 30 minute drive (thank God for GPS) so we have to be careful one of us can find the way back home, but it is definitely worth the trip. I will agree that with the vast beer selection it borders on overkill and after your fifth or sixth beer they can start to blend together. The IPA and the Melting Pot pale ale were very good as was the wit beer and the saison. The hefe was okay, nothing great and the kolsch was alright - not my favorite. Even if beer isn’t your thing the food is another reason to go. Their menu is almost as vast as the beer selection. Page after page of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, wraps, dinners, pizza. You can get lost just looking through it. Started off with a bucket of mussels and half-bucket of whole wings. The wings were good but the mussels were excellent - especially if you like garlic. Ending up getting another bucket with our dinners. Their sandwiches are huge and come with either homemade fries or homemade chips - both a good also. The staff is very friendly, knowledegable and helpful. Very big and clean inside. As I’ve always dreamed of having my own brewpub this place is almost how I pictured it would be (maybe they can open another a little closer?). Definitely worth the trip and will be going back again. | | FROTHINGSLOSH (26), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania | | October 11, 2009 A fine micro. Same menu and value at the other Rivertowne locations. Rustic wood themed atmosphere. They have 18 taps of beer they make themselves which is the largest selection I have ever seen in a brewpub. The staff is very knowledgeable. A good place. | | michael-pollack (71), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | | October 1, 2009 Average sports bar atmosphere. Good service. Nice selection of about 14 hours brews. Minimal food I had was good. On the cheap side. | | zach8270 (32), Henrietta, New York | | September 20, 2009 Went there with a large party for my grandfather’s 85th birthday. Service was good. The waiter really knew his stuff. Food was good, beer was really good and they had quite a nice selection. 18 of their house brews on tap, plus one real ale. Had the Steeler game on all the TV’s in the bar so it wasn’t hard to find out the score. Good atmosphere. Worth a trip if you’re in the area. | | machfive55 (21), Columbia, Pennsylvania | | August 31, 2009 Pretty nice place, I thought it was a typical bar setting, nothing special. They have a big selection of beers and everything is brewed in house and all the beers I tried are pretty good. They come up with some interesting names for their beers. Nice place, I’ll go back if I’m ever in the area again. | | keepersj12 (19), Sicklerville, New Jersey | | June 22, 2009 Stopped in while on a business trip to Pittsburgh. Very noisy and crowded for a Monday night. Young server was very attentive and seemed well versed on the beer selection. They had 16 beers on tap, all home brewed. A guy next to me was mad because he couldn’t get a Bud. I told him to try the light lager and I think he was hooked. Beer was pretty good, nothing particularly outstanding. They seemed to have a good selection of wheat beers. I had wings which were standard pub fare. Prices were good. All in all, a pretty good place. | hopheaddan (1), DuBois, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | September 3, 2008 The best brew pub I have ever been to. Variety and rotation are awesome. My ratings of their beers were consistently high. I think they blow away Otto’s in State College & the Selinsgrove brewpub which are rated higher by most. | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | September 2, 2008 Stopped on a quiet Labor Day afternoon for lunch. 18 house beers on tap, which is pretty awesome, although I only was really interested in one or two of them for a pint’s worth (and the Pineapple Under the Sea, sadly, had just kicked). Our food (veggie wraps) was excellent, though my brother described the source of his buffalo wings as marathon-running chickens, dead eight years. So, skip the wings. Medium-wood bar, bright but softly lit, a good place for a quick pint thought not somewhere I could see myself at often. More of a family restaurant than a serious brewpub, at least on slow days. Still, lots of stuff to try. | | Aurelius (89), Tallahassee, Florida | | June 30, 2008 A jaunt from downtown Pittsburgh, definitely out in the ’burbs. Ample parking, but watch out crossing the street. A great number of house brews on tap - at least 14 - so there are two sampler flights. The beers are hit and miss, but generally decent. I had the Pacino Italian sandwich, and it was the bomb - nicely toasted. Feels like the average sportsbar-on-a-shoestring. Wait staff was friendly and prompt enough. Worth the drive from Pittsburgh? Yes. Worth a cab ride? No. | | LinusStick (29), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | April 10, 2008 A nice brewpub for the Pittsburgh and suburbs area. A little off the beaten path so I thought it would be empty. Well, I came during a Penguins game and the place was packed and loud. Nice selection of beers. Typical brewpub quality, but not bad. The waitor was knowledgeable about their beer and gave good descriptions on what to expect in each one. Food was typical bar food. Good and greasy. I will go again to try the rest of the beers I didn’t have. Nice place. |
