A classic place, which left nice memories. Got to go to the "elder" part of the building with lots of beautiful paintings and stuff. Fast and friendly service, and the food came rather quickly as well. The Schnitzl was a good choise with the Rauchbier Märzen.

First: the beer is great. Second: the service was not so great. I was in Biergarten and I had to wait for some time to order the beer. I wasn’t given the opportunity to order anything else. And it took ages to get the beer. Everybody else outside had the same problem. Well it’s touristic place.

A nice place to finnaly try the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen again. The interior is like the beer, dark and wooden. Serve the Märzen right from the barrel, a must if you are in Bamberg.

Both Touristy and local. Nice atmosphere on hot summer nights. The beers are classic. No seasonals avaliable, No Fastenbeer ot Urbock :-( . A must visit and really glad I got the oppurtunity to spend a few hours here.

An absolute classic building representing what is undoubtedly one of the most special breweries in the world. The atmosphere is wonderful. Manages to attract both regulars and tourists but never feels touristy even when big groups are in. Is dark and cozy and very traditionally decorated but somehow manages to avoid being in the least bit grandmotherly or stuffy. The biergarten is a delight. Off-sales from a little window and a hallway for those who prefer to stand and/or spill out onto the street. The service is excellent considering how busy they usually are and how many stupid tourists they must get in every day. Their food can be a bit pricey but it’s of solid quality. And of course, drinking Schlenkerla from the wood is an unparalleled beer experience. It cures what ails ya, and it qualitatively different from the bottle.

The classic. Gorgeous building that used to be part of an abbey - probably the nicest building in which to drink in town. The rauchbier is from the wood and very fresh. Everybody comes here, tourists, beer geeks and locals alike. And with good reason. Selection score is high because you are never at want for a great beer. I liked the haxe, too.

The setting and fellow visitors were great, but the clearly unfriendly service was dismal. Waited forever even though it was not crowded and were basically ignored for food. Never offered a menu from the irritated staff. Only friendly persons in the bar were our fellow strangers at the table.

Most of the locals, some of whome I’ve talked to seem to feel guilty about enjoying a pint here once in a while, would have you believe this is a tourist trap, which isn’t the case at all! Can be quite crowded sometimes, but there’s usually a free table in the Dominikanerklause. Doesn’t really matter where you sit or stand though, the atmosphere is great and the beer is delicious. Food is standard fare, but well-made and the service is quite efficient, though most of the time bordering on blunt.
