Used to be a hospital brewery (hence the name "spital"), which served patients a beer each night before bed. If all hospitals were still like that, the world would be a better place. Even without its history, it’s got a fantastic beer garden. It’s large, and Munich-like in atmosphere and layout as well as size. Right on the Danube, next to the medieval stone bridge that has stayed standing for nearly a millennium ...The only gripe I had was with how difficult it was to acquire a bottle to take away. It took about 20 minutes of buck-passing as we kept getting re-directed to another part of the brewery or another person. It was needlessly complicated and a few of the people were outright rude.

i went there on an early autumn day and the excellent beer garden was packed. the beers were pretty average but this place is still worth a visit

A truly fantastic place in the beergarten if the weather is nice. A great view of the city and to watch people crossing the old roman stone bridge. Beers are good and so is the food.

We were here on a hot, sunny day in 2006. It was great to sit by the Danube and put down helles and weizen with the sausages. I don’t remember the beers being very distinctive, but they were good and the location perfect. Don’t miss it if the weather is good.

Very pleasant location next to the River Danube. The Helles was very drinkable, food good and service attentive. well worth visiting.

The weather was scheiss when we were there, so the gorgeous biergarten outside wasn’t an option. The atmosphere inside was old-timey, but not as cool as outside would have been. Oh well. Service was good, and the beer and brats were more than decent.

Set amidst ancient churches and almshouses on an island in the Danube, to be reached by the oldest stoney bridge in the center of Europe, this beautiful beer-garden (and classic beer-hall) offers scenic views of the Regensburg old town (esp. Old Bridge and Cathedral). Unique atmosphere in summer evenings - a must when You are in Regensburg. They offer two draught Spital beers and a number of bottled brews of the same producer.
