Gespuccian (4), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | August 5, 2009 Been meaning to get here for a while...glad I finally did. Great selection of 60 American craft beers on tap. Some more common, but many I hadn’t tried before - especially on tap. Expect to pay about $5-$6 a pint - great value for getting rare craft brews on tap. But tasters of 4 5oz glasses were $10 and offered the chance to try some new brews. Bartenders were knowledgeable and helpful. Patio is only open till 10 p.m., since the bar is right next to a neighborhood. Overall a great beer experience - will definitely return. | | beerwolf77 (11), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | July 10, 2009 This is the place to go for american craft brew on tap. Outstanding selection. It has a really nice laid back feel to it to. The bar itself is very long with ample seating plus there’s a nice selection of couches to relax on with a beer. | | Magjayran (22), Durham, North Carolina | | May 19, 2009 The only thing taking points away from ambiance is that it’s a little dark. The bartender was very polite. Awesome selection of American Microbrews including some rare locals and even some hard to find stuff from other states. I like the option of buying a flight. Decent music too. | surffisher (2), Raleigh, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2009 This is a great beer bar, especially if like me, you favor north american craft beers. About 60 on tap with no imports (I realize that some may not dig this) and no macros. The selections were great with approx half representing relatively local upper midwest breweries. There was a good 8-10 beers that I really would have liked to try (have to disclose that I was visiting and live in NC, so many of these beers and breweries were new to me). There were at least four barleywines, four strong ales, three or four scotch ales and a few doppelbocks. Service was impecable - a very thoughtful, attentive, and laid back bartender. Scene was cool and mellow with a good selection of music (variety from early 70s glam to free jazz). All beer were served at proper temperatures in proper glassware and the pours were very reasonable for the price. They do have food specials during the week: soups from another local eatery. Soups looked good, but I didn’t try anything. Overall a great place. | | esjaygee (105), Oak Creek, Wisconsin | | April 2, 2009 Pretty much what everybody else says – excellent selection of beers, knowledgeable and friendly staff and a nice smoke free environment. Always willing to let you sample a beer and the choices generally rotate rather frequently. Smoke free is always a plus. Food is minimal - soup and bread and it would be nice if they accepted credit cards. | dcr2 (2), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | March 1, 2009 I have to say that this is very quickly becoming my favorite bar in Milwaukee. This is probably mostly because I love beer, but the bar has tons of room, usually decent music playing, a stage in the back room, sweet bathrooms, tons of seating, an awesome bar with more taps than I’ve ever seen in one place (besides a brewfest). The staff seems really nice and very knowledgeable. They also have a great deal on tasters Sunday through Thursday. Check it out! | | coharahawk (12), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | January 10, 2009 I’m a long time lurker of Ratebeer, but never got around to rating anything as of yet. However, my experience last night forced my hand.
I stopped by this place around 10 pm on a Friday after a suggestion from a guy while I was at the Palm Tavern. Wow, am I ever glad that I made it to Sugar Maple. It was very busy at the time, but did not feel too crowded. The most impressive thing was their tap list though. They have 60 taps with zero filler. NG Raspberry tart and Tyranena Brewers Gone Wild on tap. Bruno (the owner) is a really cool guy and talked beer with me after it quieted down. Go here if you get the chance. | | fiver29 (15), Cleveland, Ohio | | July 31, 2008 I visited two nights ago after the Brewers game. They had New Glarus, Tyranena, and a whole slew of domestic and imports on tap. They had a nice bottle list as well with some dogfish head 750’s, goose island, and a bunch of others. This was definitely a great place for a good craft beer. Smoke free is a huge plus. The ambiance was really cool and chic. Tables and chairs were low to the ground which I thought was a little interesting for a beer bar. The bar itself was made out of nice wood and was where we sat during our visit. Service was prompt and friendly. We asked if they could call us a cab when it was time to leave and they did so no problems. Prices were reasonable. I have two suggestions to improve this place. One, serve food. If you are going to serve high alcohol beer you should have food for your customers. And two you should take credit cards. My group was annoyed they had to pay with cash. This was a neat place I would go back in an instant. | | kmeves (97), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin | | July 27, 2008 Neat little smoke free bar with a decent selection of micros. Somewhat lacking on the higher end stuff but still very respectable selection. Prices are very reasonable. | TexanIndian (2), Fort Worth, Texas does not count - explanation | | May 9, 2008 Great atmosphere with an very good selection. Always enjoy a good beer or two on every visit to Milwaukee. The smoke-free policy is an added bonus! |
