6 reviews for The Belgian Cafe
joeyplush (5), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | February 8, 2009 Great addition to the Monk’s family. Excellent selection of bottles, could use a few more on tap. Food selection is ok, they do have good mussels. I also definitely liked that it was not as crowded and cramped as the original monk’s. | | jeremytoni (54), Swedesboro, New Jersey | | August 7, 2008 Nice selction of bottles and drafts, good food, and quick service. Local hard to finds and imports, mussels, outdoor dinning. | | chronictonic (27), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania | | May 11, 2008 Stopped by there yesterday afternoon (Saturday) around 5:00. Some outside tables in use, nearly empty bar. Very knowledgeable bartender. Decent selection on tap - mostly belgians, with Stone Russian Imperial Stout, Victory Baltic Thunder and Weyerback Hops Infusion. Wife and I both got burgers - very good, but a pretty damn small burger for $9 +/-. (If you want a great burger, try Vintage at 13th and Sansom). They do have the great monks fries and dipping mayo though.
brbrWill definitely visit again - hopefully it’ll be a little bit warmer and we can enjoy the outdoor tables.
| | mkobes (49), paramus, New Jersey | | March 2, 2008 I was there last night after the beer fest. Very nice bottle selection. Service is excellent. Nice warm ambiance. Good food selection. Knowledgeable staff. We both drank Monks Flemish sour on draft which was fresh. It was our first visit, and definitely will visit again. | | corby112 (17), philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | November 30, 2007 [ Updated December 6, 2007 ] New belgian restaurant opened up in the Fairmount section of the city by the owners of Monk’s Cafe. Although it shares some similarities to Monk’s, it has its own character. The menu is different, offering items that are unavailable at Monk’s such as an amazing mussel bisque and a variety of mussels and sandwiches. The ambience is warm and looks more like a restaurant than a pub and the service is alway very good. They have now expanded their beer menu to 200+ beers. Also, they have Nogne O Dark Horizon but it’ll cost you $25 per bottle. | | kkearn (21), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | November 3, 2007 Stopped by for lunch with my girlfriend last week, and food/drinks at the bar. The restaurant is very nice, with a comfortable and spacious bar. Service was prompt and attentive, as expected with a small lunch crowd. The initial draft and bottle selection was not as extensive as Monk’s yet, but the menu promises that the selection will expand in the coming months. Food was good, with some favorites from Monks, as well as some new options. The biggest surprise was the Frites, with were much thicker than Monk’s and came with a different mayo and a spicy ketchup dip. Overall, we were impressed with our first visit, and will be back again soon. |
