11 reviews for The Porter Beer Bar
| jhumphries69 (24), Tyrone, Georgia | | December 30, 2009 Right amidst the shops and bars at the Little Five Points intersection. Dark with a long bar on entrance. Larger seating area in the back behind the bar with dark wood booths and furniture and brick walls. The food is top-notch - with the specials generally being my favorites (though the regular menu items include a number of great dishes - including hush puppies, a great reuben sandwich, great burger, and a great shrimp sandwich). The beer selection is always nice and sometimes features some exotic and/or harder-to-find brews. Service is great and very friendly as well (we take our kids, and one of the waitresses that serves us more often than not recognizes the kids and always talks to Will (the older of our kids - the one that is old enough to actually converse with). Great place. | | mcrowther (12), ATLANTA, Georgia | | November 15, 2009 This is my local bar and I love it. The selection is very good and changes often, they usually have a cask ale on, the glassware is always perfect and the food is excellent- the french fries are the best in town. Rivals the Brick Store for the best bar in Atlanta. | | Teege (12), Orlando, Florida | | October 21, 2009 This place is great. My girlfriend and I went here two nights in a row to try as much as we could. Molly is the best, and in fact everyone we talked to was very nice and very knowledgeable. Definitely one of the better beer selections I’ve seen and great food to boot. Love the decorations with all the old luggage. You must visit the Porter when you are in Atlanta. | | NachlamSie (213), Tennessee | | September 29, 2009 This bar is awesome and ridiculously close to my buddy’s apartment. The ambiance is very much like the Brick Store or Trappeze. It looks like the inside of a castle or some other ancient structure. Candles provided most of the light. Service was efficient, engaging, and knowledgable. I didn’t get to eat on this visit, but I will next time. The tap list is extensive without being so large rotation never occurs. As with most places in GA, the beer prices are fantastic, especially for the draft offerings. I can’t wait to go back! | tubehead (5), Atlanta, Georgia does not count - explanation | | August 25, 2009 This place reminds me of a Belgian pub, with a narrow dark interior dominated by an oversize bar. The beer menu is fantastic, with a huge list of both tap and bottle offerings. The food is spiffed up pub fare and was much better than I expected based on the space. Chef Nick is extremely gifted. His wife Molly personally came to the table to talk beer - she doesn’t look old enough to know that much! Overall it was a fantastic evening - one that will be repeated in the very near future! | | jolomo (10), Atlanta, Georgia | | July 16, 2009 Absolutely the best gastropub in the city of Atlanta and an amazing addition to L5P. Taps change frequently and there’s usually a cask going. The regular menu is quite good but the frequently changing specials are almost always a pleasant surprise. I usually sit at the bar so my service experience may be different than the tables in the back. | BluesDaddy (2), , Georgia does not count - explanation | | May 31, 2009 This is a great little "hole in the wall" pub in the middle of Atlanta’s Little Five Points. Run by a young couple, service is fantastic and the food even better. They generally run close to 30 beers on tap and a hundred or so in the bottle, so not a huge selection. But the beers they DO have are many of the best. Oh, and did I mention the food? You don’t have to go anywhere else for a night of great beer and dining! | | craftbeerdesign (16), Alpharetta, Georgia | | April 6, 2009 wonderful addition to Atlanta’s beer scene... although some elements are a direct rip off of The Brick Store in Decatur, such as the beer menu style and certain design elements, The Porter can certainly hold its own. I personally think the beer selection at The Porter outweighs that of The Brick Store, unless you were talking strictly Belgian Ales. The Porter’s beer list is long, well rounded and special.... as well as fairly priced. There are some really good deals on some beers here. The setting is very rustic and appealing... dark woods, exposed brick walls... however it is quite narrow, so I imagine it could get very cramped at night. The food is wonderful... probably the best fries I’ve had, period. Wonderful vegetarian black beer burger.... quite gourmet... not your typical pub/bar food. and again well priced. great service when we were there (although it was a weekday - so not sure how it is when crowded).... I’ll be back again and again.... | jutwhit (1), , Georgia does not count - explanation | | January 5, 2009 I’ve been here twice now- first time with a large group of 10+. Service at first was horrible; with a group that large, it’s wise to come back as much as possible to feed our liquid diet- luckly the sous chef took over and made our evening perfect- fast drinks and great knowledge. My second visit didn’t go over so well. We were told a half an hour wait that turned into an hour. Once we finally got seated, we immediately ordered drinks and apps since it was a very busy night. Eventually our drinks came out but never any apps. A half an hour went by and we finally gave up and walked out. I was really looking forward to their entrees but this point we were starving. They definitely need to work on a better staff or this won’t last long. I love the beer selection and heard good things about the food but a lot needs to be here. | | Cybercat (42), Georgia | | October 25, 2008 Tucked into Little Five Points, this beer bar is worth seeking out among the funky boutiques. Interior is not too brightly lit, giving a feeling of coziness. The front seems small, but the back has plenty of tables and booths for large parties. The rough-hewn tables and rugged wooden chairs assure you that this is an informal, laid-back place where you can enjoy brewskis with your friends. Beer selection is amazing - over 100 in bottles, and 28 rotating taps, mostly micros and craft brews. Service people are helpful and friendly. Food is quite good and not too pricey - their organic bean burger is delicious. A wonderful tavern, I hope this becomes an Atlanta fixture. |
