15 reviews for Vinmonopolet Oslo City
| Ljunkan (10), Karlstad, Sweden | | August 18, 2009 The good thing about this place is that it had quite a lot of beers from Nögne Ö and Haandbryggeriet which I cannot get without ordering a whole case in Sweden. Prices is of course high, as always in Norway. I didn’t buy that much, even though they also had some interesting Danish beers not found at Swedens Systembolaget. Visited in september 2008. | | jeverszeuge (13), , Germany | | July 14, 2009 some interesting international things. but i expected a wide range of norwegian beers. four or five breweries is not very much.
prices are high but that´s normal in scandinavia - especially in oslo which is one of the most expensive cities in the world. | | Kestral (20), Oslo, Norway | | March 27, 2009 Decent selection, they always keep a bit more than the standard Vinmonopolet selection. Staff is helpful, but often busy. | | espenra (13), Oslo, Norway | | July 26, 2008 Vinmonopolet is norwegian for Wine Monopoly so you’ll mostly find wine and spirits here, but they have a decent selection of beer as well. The staff is helpful, but for some weird reason it isn’t possible for one shop to provide beer from another shop. This is why I gave them a lower service score. | | Smaskifa (11), Oslo, Norway | | June 19, 2008 This is the state owned alcohol monopoly of Norway, everything above 4,7 % is sold here only. Their main focus is wine and booze, so the beer selection isn’t the best - and the prices usually are rather stiff. On the other hand, they do have quite a few high quality beers among their standard selection - Nøgne Ø among others. According to their website it is possible to import pretty much everything you’d like, as long as it’s for private use. The costs might be high though. | | garza (19), Caracas, Venezuela | | March 22, 2008 This is just a store. I don’t even know why is on this list!. And it is not a great one by the way. | | altonbrownd (74), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 18, 2007 The price being what it is. What I like about the vinmonopolet is that you can go to their website, review their 72 beers and see which of their many locations spread across the country has which one. Quite service-oriented. Then again, I’m only here a few days so bought a couple of Nogne’s, Aass’s and a bottle from Lithuania. Those 5 bottles pushed me over the eur32 $40 mark... But they are good beers nonetheless. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | May 29, 2007 Well, this is Norway, so the selection remains pretty bad and the prices stunningly high, but I guess this is the one place to go to get yourself a few bottles to bring back home. Forget about beer advice. | eric82oslo (1), Langhus, Norway does not count - explanation | | November 3, 2006 Although the selection of beer types are not abundant (having in mind the 30,000+ sorts included on this website), it’s mostly great in the overall alcohol category, especially by focusing on high quality products. Perhaps for this reason, perhaps not, other types of alcohol are favoured, especially red wines, sparkling wine, whiskey and cognac. My ratings are based on this wide spectrum of offering, not solely the beer selection available. It’s more than sufficient for my demands, although it could, of course, always have been ten times, or a 100 times, bigger. But then again Oslo ain’t Tokyo either. My main complaint is of course the excessive pricing, but this is due to government politics, not their own private policies. :) | | yngwie (82), Kristiansand, Norway | | August 7, 2006 The rating must be seen in connection with the poor selection in Norway. Also, the service rating would be higher is this site was named Ratewine. The knowledge of beer is next to zero. The upside of this store is that they have most of the beers available in Norway with an ABV of 4,8% +. |
