ralphdot (5), Billingham, England does not count - explanation | | November 20, 2009 Great selection of beers, best if you can get an outside table next to the canal on a warm day.
| | MikeF (95), Cleveland, Ohio | | August 31, 2009 Nice cafe for beer right on the canal. good rotating beer selection. some exclusive drafts. prices are ok. They serve food from a restaurant immediately next door that was very good. try the waterzooi. | | vanderputten (11), , Belgium | | July 26, 2009 nice location, staff is ok, beerlist is ok, food is ok! | | Bontus (13), Waasmunster, Belgium | | November 20, 2008 Been here a few times already but as a student it’s better to avoid a rather expensive place like this. The ambiance is very good I must say, location is in the (north-)middle of a beautiful ancient city centre. For food I really recommend you cross the canal and move up north a bit until you reach the spare rib café. All you can eat spare ribs with honey and fries. Then after your meal return to the waterhuis for some more hoppy goodness. | | Lubiere (177), Ottawa, Ontario | | October 25, 2008 I really loved the decor there, with beams covered in dried hops garlands, the brown cafe feel, the location and the view of the canal. An excellent selection of beers, with the Gandavum Dry Hopping on tap, their house beer. Snacks are available. Visited Nov. 2006. | | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | August 18, 2008 A nice place on the canal side. Right in the center of touristic Gent. A good beer list with no real rarities but solid selections. The house beer Gandavum is OK. Service is good. | | Geuzelambix (16), København, Denmark | | May 5, 2008 Cosy bar just on the edge of the canal - very atmospheric. When we went there (the first time) it was packed with students - some of which seduced us to drink a Klokke Roland (no go!). The second time it was much more quite and we had a Liefman’s Goude Band, 1987 - interesting stuff. Nice, though not remarkable, selection. If in Ghent - go there! | | Theis (80), , Denmark | | April 14, 2008 A very nice cozy bodega - small abut not to crowded, with a good beer selection. Friendly tender. Hop, old beerbottles and beer commercials as decor. Friendly costumers. They even have beers made special for this place. | | jerc (142), Toronto, Ontario | | March 17, 2008 The outside practically screams tourist trap but when I enter I am pleasantly surprised. Downstairs is a cozy wood filled room, bit dark at first but cozy. I sit at the bar and make brief conversation with a couple of Americans. Bar staff is a bit aloof at first, but engage in friendly conversation after a bit. They offer to substitute some ham when i ask for my cheese plate without the blue cheese. It arrives with healthy portions of gouda or some sort of yellow cheese, a fantastic goat cheese, ham, and various salady vegetable accoutrements. Its larger than I expected and clearly meant for more than one person, but it made for a nice albeit rich dinner for me. Beer list seems decent, I didn’t delve into it to deeply, only having time for one of the house beers on tap, Gandavum which proved to be rather nice. Bartender gives a sample of gentse kop which Babelfish tells me is Ghent head, apparently its meat from the top of a pigs head... tastier than it sounds. Barstool starts to become uncomfortable after a bit, but I suppose that is the nature of bar stools.
| | JoeinUccle (138), Brussels, Belgium | | February 13, 2008 Tight and cozy inside, can get cramped on the cooler days. Things must air out when the weather is nicer and you can sit outside. Nothing in the ye olde pub atmosphere to distract you from serious beer drinking. Service was very friendly. Get some cheese and sausage so you can sample some local mustard that burns more than any wasabi... then find the mustard shop at the local square to take some home. Solid beer selection, plenty of quality. |
