15 reviews for Woodman’s Food Market (Kenosha)
| Brigadier (81), Chagrin Falls, Ohio | | October 21, 2009
After being transplanted from Wisconsin I made a run up here to restock on some local beers. Don’t expect any knowledgeable employees to help you out; do your research before coming in. The selection actually seems a bit less than the ones in Madison though still blowing away your typical grocery store (as Woodman’s does in all departments).
If you happen to be in Chicago and have time to make the run this is a good stop for New Glarus, Tyranena, and a few other locals that are not distributed in Illinois. Otherwise continue up to Milwaukee or Madison for a richer selection. | | esjaygee (103), Oak Creek, Wisconsin | | September 2, 2009 I use to drive the 25 miles trek here to do my grocery shopping before the Oak Creek store opened up and would always pick up some beer too. It’s a good selection of Wisconsin, regioanl and national brands and numerous sampler packs. It’s not nearly as good as the Oak Creek location in terms of selection but still not that bad. | | jbuzz (25), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | July 31, 2009 A pretty good warehouse type liquer store. Woodman’s is always fun to check out.
when i was last at this location it had not had the selection of Beers that the Oak Creek store has. | | satan165 (62), River Grove, Illinois | | August 23, 2008 drove up here just for new glarus and i was not disappointed in that regard. they had also tons of other small wisconsin craft brewers i had never heard of as well as one of the largest selection of pub packs (mixed 12 packs) ive ever seen: capitol, great lakes, flying dog and many others. they had a very small selection of stone stuff which disappointed me. biggest selection of cold beer i think ive ever seen, almost nothing was warm. somehow though they dont accept credit cards? sorry, i dont get that (i guess all the stores are like that). | | Headbanger (45), Aurora, Illinois | | July 2, 2008 This Woodman’s does a decent job of getting local brews such as Tyranena BGW series and other stuff but their singes section is not nearly as big as other Woodman’s. A decent stop for us south off the border. | | Ughsmash (138), Waukesha, Wisconsin | | January 8, 2008 I don’t know if I’m spoiled with beer stores, but this Woodman’s just didn’t do it for me. They did have lots of beer, and plenty of stuff available in singles, but I was unable to find anything of interest the last 2 times I stopped by... just a lot of BMC and common local stuff for the most part. However, this does make a good stop for IL folks who want a decent selection of Wisconsin stuff that doesn’t cross the border. | | DrnkMcDermott (73), Downers Grove, Illinois | | December 3, 2007 A beer oasis for Illinois drivers trying to get the stuff that’s been shut out of our home state. Gigantic grocery store, easily visible from I-94, with a standalone liquor store, open early during hunting season, it seems. Has the cinderblock vibe of the old Iowa state-controlled liquor stores, but a much nicer selection. I did indeed find NG Unplugged and Tyranena Brewer’s Gone Wild, plus some variety packs from those brewers and from Big Sky. Single bomber bottles and imports too, plus a small selection of loose bottles. Wisconsin prices are good discount from Illinois, not to mention the overpriced Cheese Castles. Speaking of which, store has HUGE aisle of nothing but cheese and sausage. | | kmeves (97), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin | | June 25, 2007 A very decent selection of six packs and the normal grocery store singles. They will also carry rare wines and liquors. Don’t expect to find any store workers to know anything about what they sell however. | | MI2CA (19), Noblesville, Indiana | | November 13, 2006 Huge store with everything you could want from a food perspective. The seperate liquor store carries a good selection of WI micros: New Glarus, Tyranena, Capital, Lakefront, etc. Also had Bells, Founders, Goose Island, and a host of other quality micros. All in the fridge so they stay fresh. I was a little bummed they didn’t have and NG Unplugged or Tyranena Brewer’s Gone Wild, but I was still able to stock up on many good brews found only in WI. | | NachlamSie (212), Tennessee | | August 16, 2006 Good lord. For a southern boy like myself, this enormous store is mind-blowing. Woodman’s has got to be the biggest grocery store I’ve ever even imagined. I loved the cheese section. Anyway, the beer is on the liquor side which is seperated by a chain-link barrier after 9 pm. I discovered this by arriving here at 9:15pm. We came back the next morning to paruse the beer selection. They had all the necessary WI microbrews at a very reasonable price. The selection of bombers and single 12oz. was limited, but still managed to be interesting. I say anyone not familiar with this kind of mega store should come to have their senses overloaded by the vast amount of food then do some beer shopping while he’s at it. |
