RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
American Flatbread in Burlington is the third store in a thriving Vermont chain of top-notch New England-style (thin, chewy crust) pizzerias; this new addition has something else to recommend: it’s own beer, and a top-notch collection of rare and excellent beers from around the world, including many that have very rare US distribution. Three handpumps. Located just a hundred feet from Vermont Pub and Brew, and two blocks from Three Needs. NOTE (Oct 2005):fall/winter hours in place now: only open for lunch on Fri-Sunday, dinner every day. UPDATE bottle list continues to grow, with some meads and ciders available now; prices are on the high side for most of them though.

| | Fanwick_Mike (32), | | September 21, 2008 nice little brewpub/restaurant in an antique-looking building. While they did not serve a sampler, I was able to try two of thier beers as samples,a very good IPA and an ordinary dry stout. Flatbread (OK,isn’t it just a pizza?) was well prepared, quality ingredients, baked nicely, not too crisp. Price seemed a bit much at first, but considering the ingredients we requested, well, I’d have ended up paying 90% of the price at Domino’s for an inferior product. Since the subject is beer, I should note they had an extensive tap and bottle list...to go with the pizza I chose a Fuller’s ESB, although the Zero_Gravity IPA (House Brewed beer) would have been a good choice as well. Altogether a pretty good value. | | DrDavid (13), Johnson, Vermont | | September 15, 2008 Excellent service, and fine beer. They are happy to have you sample their offerings. Also, the flatbread varieties are delicious.
| | blinesam (21), | | August 29, 2008 somewhat limited menu for a restaurant (pizza and salad) but here its almost a good thing. The bread on the pizza was absolutely the best I’d ever had and the other ingredients were very nice. reasonably priced.
As for the beer, The selection of Zero gravity was pretty impressive, i think there was about 10 or so. Had the samples at 50 cents each for varying amount of beer (my guess would be that it averaged 3oz). very good beer for the most part, and intriguing styles. My favorite brewpub in VT. | | Boutip (25), Gatineau, Quebec | | August 20, 2008 Nice pizzeria located in what seems like an old warehouse. We sat on the small patio which was nice considering the weather. Service is good and staffs were aware of the beers availability. I didn’t stay for too long considering this was a family visit with the kids but the food was really good and the beers were also very interesting. Definitely a place I would recommend for anyone visiting Burlington. | | Beese (50), Watford, England | | July 4, 2008 [ Updated September 4, 2008 ] Absolutely one of the best brew-pubs/bars/restaurants I’ve been to in the US! The atmosphere is great, a really cosey and intimate feel to the place, during the day or at night. The flatbread itself is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced (I’ve paid more for really bad pizza), the oven out in the open for all to see is a very nice touch, although it can get quite hot if you’re sitting right in front of it! The staff are all very friendly and seem fairly knowledgeable on the beer front. The Zero Gravity beers that they make on sight were very good for the most part, I particularly enjoyed the Extra Stout and the Captain Ron IPA, they also had a great selection of guest taps and bottles all at good prices, some quite rare things as well. It’s quite fun to hang around after the restaurant part closes, the bar was very quiet when we were there and they turned the lights down and put a film on. Definitely the best place to go in Burlington. | | IPFreely (85), Niagara Falls, New York | | June 9, 2008 Very comfortable surroundings, and I love that the hearth isn’t tucked away in the back somewhere. You get to see your flatbread being made and shuffled around inside of the hearth while in the dining room. Great flat bread pizzas, good service, and a rather extensive beer list. I was very pleased with the whole experience and would love to go back if I’m ever in Burlington again. | | Sammy (206), Toronto, Ontario | | May 14, 2008 The beer is not bad, decent on the zero gravity house brand. The attrction tonight was a special Magic Hat night, yet only one special Magic Hat was on, the Chaotic Chemistry. Taps are good and so that alone attracts a more mature portion of the crowd. Large bar area and good sized restaurant. Good it was open, as it was closed for reno or whatever on my previous trip here two years ago. Good experienced waitstaff who even knew a bit about the beers. | Davin (3), Vermont does not count | | April 2, 2008 The best beer list I have seen in Vermont and the Zero Gravity house ales can be very good too. Once every month or two they have a regional brewer come and talk. The flatbread goes well with the beer and you get the feeling that this place takes it’s beer as seriously as it’s food or more so. | | VTHopHead (23), Barre, Vermont | | March 2, 2008 Cozy. Pizza (flatbread) is awesome. Small menu, but you don’t need much else. Beer selection is quite good with lots of interesting beers on tap and in bottles. This is certainly someplace to seek out when in Burlington. | View Page : 1 2 3 4
