This place gets CROWDED during the day. If you want to eat, call ahead about 20 minutes in advance, and there is a separate window for call-ahead orders. The house dressing is slightly less addictive than crack and tastes somewhat better. Cheeses and other gourmet foodstuff abound. There is a cooler upstairs with several beer selections, with a good emphasis on locals as well as some other US and foreign stuff. Downstairs has more of a beer selection, I’d say maybe 45-50 bottles, including a lot you won’t find upstairs. Again, an eclectic assortment with an emphasis on local (Legend, Alewerks, more).

Great place for lunch and decent cold selection to add to lunch. Mostly local but some micros and foreign. The downstairs cellar has a nice little selection of locals and non locals. Had a few Konas, Wittekerke, DFH. Pretty knowledgeable staff for a wine shop.

The Cheese Shop is THE place to stop for a casual lunch if you’re in Colonial Williamsburg. Besides a very chic sandwich/soup bar, they have a tasty selection of micro/local brews to enjoy with lunch. And after your yummy lunch, venture downstairs to the cellar for a decent selection of brews to go.

This is NOT The Fat Canary - even though the two restaurants are conjoined. This place primarily offers freshly baked breads, imported and domestic cheeses and wines, Virginia hams, and are best know for their GREAT sandwiches. My personal favorite is a bag of bread ends and a tub of house dressing which will only set you back about $5. This place is a favorite of both William and Mary students and tourists alike. Performula was right, be prepared to wait. The rest of his review, aside from the hours, is spot on as well - not really a focus on beer, but a place in Colonial Williamsburg that you can find a cold bottle of something micro when you need it. If you’re looking to take something home, i’d recommend walking down the steps in the alley beside The Cheese Shop and go down into The Wine Cellar.

Nice sandwich shop smack dab in Colonial Williamsburg. Located next to ticket office for Williamsburg Tours. The hours are odd during the week; however, they were open at 1:00pm on Saturday. Seating is limited so be prepared to wait. The place offers great sandwhiches, rare foods, wine, and you guessed it, micro beers. They had a few from Legend’s line up, Dogfish, Victory, and a few others. Sandwiches are very fresh. Price as follows = Sandwich $5, Chips $1.50, Legend Imperial IPA 22oz. $5.50. Very satisfied at $12.
