| Elwood (34), Leesburg, Virginia | | October 5, 2009 It’s in an industrial park so don’t expect much in the way of ambiance. There was only one guy working there, but he was knowledgeable about all of the brews. He was even kind enough to pop open a couple of the Brewmaster’s Reserve beers for us to try. A good place to stop and try out there beers, but don’t expect much outside of that. | SidewinderX (4), Williamsburg, Virginia does not count - explanation | | January 2, 2009 Took the $5 Brewery tour. Knowledgeable staff, quick to answer questions. The tour was followed by a tasting session with most of the regular beers poured from taps. Nice tasting session, with explanations for the different beer styles, as well as the names of the beers and whatnot. A nice little trip if you are in the area. | | Immy (88), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | August 12, 2008 Just a brewery with a store in a business park. Most current beers on tap to sample, and lots of merchandise. Friendly staff. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | August 4, 2008 [ Updated August 13, 2008 ] I like the industrial park ambience, but it may not be for everyone. Super nice people. They’ve had some infection issues, particularly with the 400 ale, but those seem to be gone lately. Some of the Reserve beers, esp. the Rapadou Porter, are outstanding. Not many brewery choices in Williamsburg, but Alewerks is definitely worth a visit. Very close to the Richmond Road hotel/crappy restaurant area. | | DocLock (108), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania | | July 23, 2008 Went here during my summer Williamsburg vacation. It’s nice to be able to growler these beers and take away all the current varieties, seasonals, and rarities. Staff was helpful, and the beers ranged from mediocre to downright outstanding. | | Butters (150), Virginia | | March 2, 2008 Small tasting shop located next to the brewery. Located in an industrial park. You can purchase their 5 standards in six-packs or singles or growler fills, as well as their superbly delicious Brewmaster Reserve series available in individually numbered Bombers. Lots of other merchandise is available as well. Mike can be a little abrasive at times, but he does have a passion for his beers. Definitely a must for residents of Williamsburg, and worth a stop for anyone passing through the area. | | Braudog (478), Dayton, Ohio | | December 20, 2006 An upstart company co-led by Mike, former brewer of the now defunct Hilltop Brewery in Va. Beach. They have 5 standards -- pale, IPA, wheat, porter and their tavern ale -- plan for seasonals. All their beers have been quite good from the onset. I finally got the chance to visit their brewery and store at the same site as the closed Williamsburg Brewing Co. One building houses an impressive brick-clad brewhouse while right next door is a small merchandise store. The owners are a friendly lot and more than happy to chat. Some of their take-aways are a bit pricey, but they are in business to make money afterall. They also sell their six-packs and growlers to go right there at the source. They offer a tour at 3 pm but take visitors during the afternoon. Definitely a bright spot on the Viginia Peninsula ... hope they continue to do well. |
