Pretty good selection of American beer and British, with a modest Belgian, German and random worldly selection. Everything gets sold as singles if you want, but are usually rounded up a dollar from the six or four-pack price. Prices seem pretty standard for the area, and I haven’t seen any good sales in the last month and a half of normal check-ins. THe selection is overall a bit weaker than the Whole Foods a couple blocks away, but the singles advantage and a few beers that Whole Foods doesn’t have do make Cairo somewhat attractive. Very cramped inside, and a bit random with the layout, but it’s small enough that you probably won’t miss anything. I thought that they would be prohibited from selling singles due to the new city ordinance, but either they don’t care or got out of it. Worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood, but Chevy Chase has this one beat pretty good.

I wish I could give higher marks to what was my go-to joint when I lived on 17th and P. But it’s basically just a solid neighborhood store where you can pick up a WaPo, some scratch tickets, and oh yeah, some Stone, Southern Tier, and a decent assortment of Belgians. Nostalgia stil clouds my judgment.

There’s a reasonable selection here, which is disastrously organized. Seems to reliably have seasonal selections of most available east coast microbrewers, though not all are represented (only one bottle of Weyerbacher, no Southern Tier, etc.). All bottles available as singles. Belgian supply is a bit random (Westmalle Tripel, but no dubbel;Chimay Bleu but no blanche or rouge). Its one huge advantage is its accessibility to the metro. Quality service. Otherwise, Chevy Chase in a landside.

The outside is your normal DC liquor store but the real suprise awaits inside! The selection of beer is awesome. They sell singles and the service is very good. The owner was very helpful with my order. Great location! Fine selection of wine. I will visit again.

Looks like your typical urban liquor store from the outside and the first few steps in. Beer section is tucked into the back and cramped. Selection is good for a neighborhood liquor store with a nice selection of American micros and European labels. Very pricey compared to others. A bottle of Rogue Imperial Stout ran me $13.99 and Belhaven Wee Heavy was $4.79. Still worth a look if you’re in town and walking distance from many DC points.

Just one block over from where I stayed for RBSG. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the selection is really good - and they sell singles out of six-packs, which is nice for the traveller. Though only the owner knew this, the employees seemed a bit confused.

Short walk from DuPont Circle Metro stop, and just down the street from some excellent restaurants, the selection at Cairo Liquor is small but decent enough. As of July 2006: Rodenbach Grand Cru 750ml, $10, La Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen IPA Tripel, 750ml, $10, De Dolle Stille Nacht/Oerbier/Arabier/Dele Tuve, and a few six-packs of regional beer such as Magic Hat. Ok liquor store, better than most in the area, but be aware that beer is not their only thing, so don’t expect a specialty shop.

september 2000 - looks like nothing from outside but it has an impressive selection (far too much for my 4 days in D.C. !). Not very friendly (maybe they don’t like swiss tourists...)

A great alternative to the P st. Whole Foods rather boring selection. A lot of great craft beers, a nice (finally!) selection of Belgian ales sold in singles (finally able to find Achel Trappist within a few blocks of my apartment!). NIce place to stop in after work for a few great bottles of beer. Staff was pleasant, prices were a little high (especially for the 6 pack of Rogue Brutal Bitter) but that won’t sway me from visiting this place again very soon.

Actually a suprisingly good find. I was looking for a few delirium glasses, and called this place up. The guy on the end of the line siad he thought that he may have some in back. I drove over, and walked in to what looks like your usual liqour store. What a suprise! The maybe 700 ft/sq store is almost entirely devoted to quality brews. The owner - I didn’t get his name - is a great guy who had four delirium glasses there waiting for me and basically gave them to me at a dollar a piece. Along with that, I bought a bomber of Bastard, Trois Pistoles, and Tremens. As I was buying the glasses I got the Tremens for half off. A good place to spend your money. As Cobra said, a very old school place with three guys older guys behind the counter telling great dirty jokes.
