June 8, 2007 Definitely a cool place to stop in if you’re travelling the Great River Road, even if the beer’s not all that special. The Fountain City beers I think are only available here and hey, that’s another couple of ratings, right? Great old tavern, really quite large with the multiple stories, 2 large rooms on the first level....bright and clean, yet it still has that dusty-rustic feel. I was obviously a tourist, and the place doesn’t get many, but service was still pretty pleasant and the finger foods we had were all right. Probably not worth a trip in its own right, but worth a 1/2 hour stop if you’re on the great road. |
June 3, 2007 Home of Fountain City Brews (which are contract brewed variously by Viking and Grey’s), this quaint three story complex is one of the nicer places I’ve stopped at. The basement tavern still has original stone flooring and a fantastic albino buck stuffed in the corner. The main floor has lots of Packer memorabilia on hand. The owner is planning on renovating the complex to do a three level concept with each level housing a different restaurant/bar. The fountain city brews were excellent and the Irish cooking very nice as well. An obscure collection of hand imported Celtic memorabilia and Lord of the Rings lead miniatures as well. |
