| CMUBEERMAN (49), Madison, Wisconsin | | September 19, 2009 Yeah i guess im surprised that i didn’t add this place years ago, and that i didn’t think to rate it until now. anyway...pretty much like the others said. about 30 wisconsin beers on tap and probably about 50 or so wisconsin beers in bottles. only non-wisconsin beers available are bottles of bud and bud-light (listed as imports). food is quintessential madison...burgers, sandwiches, salads made from local ingredients...cheese plates, fish fry. All pretty good and very fairly priced. This place gets quite busy...so be prepared to wait for a table. I’d say, that if all you want to do is come in to town to taste local beers...this is easily the top option (though some of the beers will be from places that don’t make very good beers). Also, this place happens to get kegs of the NG unplugged and Tyranena BGW series more frequently than anywhere else. | | marchcow (36), Coralville, Iowa | | August 12, 2009 Came here for lunch/breakfast before the GTMW ’09. Very good selection of beers on tap and numerous very good Wisconsin bottles. I think they had about 35 beers on tap now and a lot more bottles that that but I can’t remember for sure. Food was quite good. Had breakfast scramble with hash browns and an IPA. Nice atmosphere, open and airy. Will definitely come back. | | nuplastikk (20), Madison, Wisconsin | | April 20, 2009 It’s absolutely berserk that this place has so few ratings. Downtown location, right by the Capitol building. 20+ Wisconsin beers on tap, 35+ in the bottle. Awesome prices, especially on limited edition beers. Off the hook 2 for 1 happy hours. Kick ass food, the Sunday chicken dinner is phenomenal. A must hit. | | notalush (162), Denver, Colorado | | April 6, 2009 [ Updated April 12, 2009 ] I was taken here for dinner this evening by an in-law, because she raved about their burgers - I must say, the burgers were quite good, as was everything else - the place had a homey old pub feel to it - the clientele were of various ages and backgrounds, from obvious UW students, to capital bureaucrats (the place is right on the capital square, across from the capital building), but no one seemed out of place - the service was average - the beer selection on tap was focused solely on Wisconsin micros, which is pretty cool - most of what was on tap was readily available in bottle shops, but there were brewpub offerings, and some local rarities (Tyranena Chipotle Imperial Porter) - I appreciated their focus on local beer, though - this, coupled with the solid food, make this a nice stop for the hungry beer nerd when downtown. |
