A nice semi underground restaurant with stone walls and wood galore. Would have been great, but tack beer decor is everywhere. Service is good and selection of their beer is plentiful. Unfortunately beer is pretty bland. Food is nice though. Not worth a specific stop, bud not bad if you are around.

Sports bar with plenty of drunk regulars. Service was passable. Food was weakest part. It was obvious that hamburgers were made of frozen patties .....They do offer cheap tasters. Beers were decent.

Popped in to the Huether Hotel while my inlaws were in town recently for a few drinks and some lunch. The place is a nice cozy basement pub. Low light and lots of brick with a very friendly server. I started with a sampler and I quite enjoyed all of the beers in it - considering the fairly low ratings for the products, I was quite surprised by the quality. The lager was fresh and balanced and the bitter had a solid balance of malt and earthy/spicy hops. Our lunch was also pretty good - massive portions for the price (lunch could easily have been two meals). I’m not sure if there were quality problems before, but of the five beers I tried, four were absolutely solid for the style. No complaints here.

Large patio is nice in the summer. The historic building is nice, and their in-house beers are quite cheap, and not bad. The English Ale is the best I’ve tried there. Food is decent, but the real value lies in the beer.

Decent place with drinkable, but not fantastic in-house brew. The menu is vast and varied with something for everyone. Interesting building with several distinct areas with different feels (sports, patio, pool, dinner, etc). mostly a macro beer type place with the house brews as a cheap option.

Couple different spots in a nice old building. I usually go with the Barley Works, especially with a nice, really big patio in the summer. Decent selection of beers brewed on site. Food is nothing to get particularly excited about. Prices are pretty good. Certainly worth a visit when you’re in Waterloo.

This place is a well known establishment in the uptown area, a historic building, good stop in the area for decent pub food and beers unique to this location. I have many fond memories of hanging out after WLU concerts with friends here. There are far better beers available just feet away across Princess at Jane Bond, or down the street even at Failte. Best to skip the beer at night time and pick up coffee and excellent eggs benedict here the next morning.

this place offer some of the best fresh lagers ive ever had. the english ale is also quite nice. the bar upstairs is the place to go for very reasonable pint prices and pub food, while the pub downstair has more of a steakhouse feel to it. ive never had bad service but ive never really been blown away either. the downstairs pub also offers samples of the beers brewed on site. this is a regular stop for me on my way home from rounds of golf in the waterloo area. check it out.

I FINALLY went here for my 20th birthday. Very nice historic building. The pub is downstairs, with the old lagering cellar within site (very interesting!). Service was very nice and helpful. This was a Monday night, and it was somewhat busy, so I wonder what it’s like on their heavier days. But the old-timey tavern atmosphere is really cool. The Wuerzburger Lager is definitely the flagship brew, and the pick of the litter. The food was pretty decent too, I loved the fries. I would recommend this place to anyone is KW looking for somewhere with decent beer at astronomically better prices than the other lousy bars in the area! EDIT: Word to the wise: Avoid the management. They can be jerks for one reason or another and generally display an unfriendly attitude towards customers. They also refuse to hire specific groups of people (ie. students), and I’ve become a lot more hesitant to recommend the place to people, or spend my money there. And a word of warning to out-of-towner’s, this place is hardly worth a visit anymore. Total lack of respect for customers as well as their own beers. Avoid, and go to the Kick Off, walking distance away in University Plaza. A certain member of the family which owns the premise, who’s name may rhyme with "Ronia" (and starts with an S) seems to be the source of a LOT of grief and generally horrible business practices.
