“Great pub with attached barbers, which wasn't working the Saturday lunchtime I visited. Close to the Mersey ferries. 6 different changing beers plus ciders.“

“Nice pub close to the water across the Mersey from Liverpool and very close to Hamilton Square station. Fairly busy with friendly locals when I visited early evening. Plenty nd lock and regional beers available. Didn’t see anything of the Barbers except the stripy pole out slide.“

“In a large red-brick building close to the traffic lights where the main pedestrian shopping street begins in Birkenhead town centre. Extensive on the inside, it's pretty much a locals place and its drab selection of macro beers and lagers represents this. There's two cask ale pumps at the end of the shorter part of the 'L' shaped bar, but were not in use when I was there.“

36 /100 1 PARK ROAD EAST,
“At the far eastern side of Birkenhead Park on the end of a glorious row of terrace houses facing the park across the road this pub sits on. This was probably a glorious hotel in its heyday, but the area is run down and the pub itself encapsulates that. Nowadays it focuses on a very local clientele with just popular macro drinks which they know they will sell. It's probably worth a visit only if you're interested in architecture of public buildings from yesteryear.“

“Unfortunately the barber's shop part of this well kept traditional pub close to the waterfront and Mersey Ferry was in the process of being transferred between owners on my visit, so I never saw this part. There were however plenty of ales in both cask and keg to suffice for an hour or so before making the crossing back to Liverpool. It's not very wide with seating mostly at its front part, with the bar against a side wall towards its rear, although there's seating beyond this too. It's cosy, friendly and has a nice atmosphere. There's a large police station a few doors along so expect a few Coppers in here from time to time.“

“Single room sports pub with a front that opens up in good weather. This is a locals bar without any real focus on the drinks, just serving macro stuff in this very urban terrace house heavy area.“

“Single level purpose built pub set back from the main road in its own grounds with a car park at its rear, although if you want to reach it you'll need to traverse the housing estate next to this place to get to it. There's not a great reason to go here though, its bar, facing you after you enter through the central doorway pretty much encourages you to order Guinness, which is on several repeated pumps across the service area! This is a locals place with little focus on beer selection.“

“As the name suggests, a pub where you can have a haircut and a shave. The barber’s is the in the next room and has an old fashioned look about it, your grandfather would know what I was talking about. The beers available were from Salopian and the one I sampled was perfectly acceptable. Very quirky and definitely unusual, I hope this place thrives, as a short back and sides with a pint is not quite something you would expect!“

“Opposite Birkenhead’s main market and shopping centre, this is a small Wetherspoon that part resembles a firestation with its large wooden door facade on the exterior. Inside it’s traditionally designed for this chain with a fair soft furnished finish. The curved bar is towards the rear and had a couple of ales from the local craft brewer Peerless on it’s couple of rows of ale pumps. I was here very early before jumping on a ferry to Ireland and there was already a local crowd who had started drinking even before me! I got the impression its very much a locally oriented bar but it you should find half decent ales rotated here.“

“On the street heading South West from the very pretty Hamilton Square offering respite from an otherwise ordinary urban sprawl, this is a relatively small Wetherspoon neatly furnished in the traditional pub style for this chain. The room is open plan with several pillars obscuring views and the bar that serves rotating real ales agains the back wall. This was the first Wetherspoon I was refused alcohol in as it was just before 9am whilst waiting for a ferry to Ireland.“
