50 /100 320 PIERCE STREET This place is a time capsule. Located in a residential area basically downtown. Industrial vibe. Old. Bar area was pretty crowded but there were some other open rooms with tables in which to sit. Got a flight. Very meh. No major flaws, but nothing good either. And the best beer of the flight was a crystal clear "hefeweizen." Sigh. I wish these people had progressed at all since 1999, other than making some seltzers, but sadly, they have not. Pass. |
64 /100 Little Vinny's (Bar) 43 MAIN ST Stopped by for lunch when in town. It's a dive bar, but a nice one. Cash only. Lots of older regulars. Friendly bartender was also working the whole bar with no help. Well done. Excellent greasy bar food. Lunch was tasty. Nothing exciting here, but, they do have some decent craft selections. I had an Alaskan Amber for lunch. A smattering of New Glarus and other craft beers in the cooler along with a bunch of BMC. Not worth going out of your way but a cool stop if in town. |
78 /100 320 PIERCE STREET Recently took a tour during my stay in Hatfield, WI. The tour was informative but rather quick. Their tap room was pretty cool, I have never heard of Sand Creek so I was able to sample a lot of new beers. I found most of the beers to be just average, but their darker beers were really good. I love their double chocolate oatmeal stout. |
82 /100 320 PIERCE STREET Stopped by the brewery on the way to LaCrosse. A quaint, small place with a very interesting history. Our tour guide gave a very informative review of the history as well as a detailed explanation of the brewing process. The tap room was kind of cool - some cool old photos, neon bar lights and very helpful staff. They had a wide variety of their brews available on tap with some fresh WI cheese curd available for nibbling. The tour was a free, so the value was very high. Overall, I would strongly reccommend stopping if you’re on I-94 and pass by the Black River Falls exit. |
72 /100 320 PIERCE STREET I stopped here last week for a short visit. It was early morn and not technically a touring day but we were given a really nice impromptu tour of the facility by one of the volunteers. I had a chance to talk to the Brewmaster and another brewer as well. Everyone was super nice. I’m pretty familiar with the Sand Creek lineup as I’ve had quite a few of their beers. One thing I didn’t know was how much contract brewing they do. It’s amazing how much beer is brewed in a building that size. Either way, I definately recommend going here and will probably check it out again next time I pass through Black River Falls. |
