“Visited August 2023 for food with my family on a Sunday night - I think it's the first time I've eaten at a Spoons since before Covid. This one's a medium-sized open-plan L-shape situated right at the top of town. There was a pleasant background buzz of conversation on this night, not least from the group of lads dressed as medieval pilgrims! Fortunately the sound was off on the large TV screen on one wall (when did Spoons start having TVs? I liked it better when they didn't. Two banks of five handpumps, although they both had similar brews so there were only five different ales on - three bog standard national brands, plus Evan Evans WPA and one other equally dull guest (may have been from Glamorgan?). Service was friendly and prompt enough. Amazingly for a Wetherspoons they'd run out of chips (which to be fair they did immediately warn about) - however they didn't warn that the tomatoes and mushrooms for my meal would be substituted with the World's Largest Portion of Peas (just as well I like peas!). Definitely not one of Wetherspoons' best establishments, but it did what we needed at the usual low prices. It did confirm that the slow decline of the chain over the past eight years has not been halted by the Covid interval. We used to visit regularly as a family, but it's very much now a "only if there's nothing else" venue.“

“Arrived at the castle to find it closed for filming. Trekked back up into town and came here as it has a lovely view overlooking the castle and grouunds. The big patio would be nice in differnet weather, but the window are large and offer quite the view. Typical GK menu and beer offerings, but come here for the scenery.“

“Stopped in here for a quick one on the way from the train station to the castle. 5 cask handles and the usual macrolagers. Nothing too exciting, but seemed to be buzzing with locals. Clean and comfy.“
