46 /100 Harry's Pub (Bar) 16 SARAY EL GEZIRA ST. Visited January 2021. Inside of Marriott hotel, expensive ambience, guarded, overpriced, with very poor selection of local macrobrews. Just country tick. But they have great hummus as beer snack :) |
52 /100 Harry's Pub (Bar) 16 SARAY EL GEZIRA ST. Visited years ago. Two Egyptian beers on offer then, not sure what's there now, although I've been told some of the breweries are working again. This is a good place to get a feel for what the upper class lifestyle must have been like in colonial days, especially if you visit for afternoon tea. |
40 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. Small bottleshop. Next to spirits and wine, only Al Ahram beers and Heineken for sale. But at least you can buy beer there. Cooled beer. Shop looks neat, very unpersonal.(3-2022). |
50 /100 Harry's Pub (Bar) 16 SARAY EL GEZIRA ST. Part of Hotel Marriott thus noble and absurdly expensive bar. Very nice and elegant ambiance. Selection of beer is big disappointment, just limited set of common locals, nothing more. |
52 /100 Morias Bar (Bar) 4 ADLY Very local homely small bar with selection of canned and bottled common Egyptian beers. Clean - it's something in Cairo! Unfortunately -and of course- smoking is allowed here. |
50 /100 Cheers (Cairo) (Beer Store) 25 CHAMPOLLION RD Small inconspicuous Cairo bottle shop with complete selection of most common local beers. Interesting selection of Egyptian wines, about 20 types. It's located on Champollion Road close to crossroad with Marouf. |
40 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. Little bottle shop just as you go in the island not much to offer but atleast you can get beer... |
70 /100 Harry's Pub (Bar) 16 SARAY EL GEZIRA ST. Located in the Marriott Cairo. Visited during trip to Egypt. Limited selection of Egyptian beers, but otherwise decent European beers (for Egypt). Service was excellent. Only had a Sakara. Did not try any food, but menu looked nice. |
40 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. |
54 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. Given circumstances still a relative high ranking. Got some 7 beers out of this shop, all from Al Ahram Brewery. Owner is not that interested, but still OK. Again given this is Egypt relative high score. |
50 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. probably harsh with the scoring, again I’m judging by world standards, not making allowances for being in a beer desert. 7 different Egyptian beers available, pretty cheap, but all 7 are yellow bubbly water (ok not the shop’s fault...) |
52 /100 La Bodega (Restaurant) 157 26TH OF JULY ST. Dont expect to drink real beer in Cairo, so this place is the only "must (try hard) go" of this city. Anyway Cairo is a beautifull capital city so you dont mind for anything else! |
42 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. Drinkie’s has got everything... available on the Egyptian market that is. Which means Egyptian beers from Al-Ahram Beverages - owned by Heineken. After some time in Egypt Drinkie’s becomes your friend. Also they deliver to your flat or room for a mere LE 4,- equalling half a Euro. |
36 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. There are loads of bottle shops around Cairo, but the Drinkie’s chain may be the most prolific. They carry no more than 5 different beers and none of them is interesting. That however covers every single beer available in Egypt at the moment I’m afraid. |
50 /100 La Bodega (Restaurant) 157 26TH OF JULY ST. Upper class place in the upper class area of cairo. The bar section is highly reminiscent of a hotel bar, and the service ais flawless and cool.
As none of the more interesting Egyptian beers seems to be produced anymore you basically face a choice of locally brewed Heineken or three very similar tasting lagers from the Heineken owned Al Ahram brewery. Luxor’s gone. |
60 /100 Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 155 26TH OF JULY ST. Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop is the only beer store I could find in Cairo. Drinkie’s carries about eight different beers, all of them made by Al Ahram Beverage Co., and having spent a week in Egypt, I can’t imagine doing any better than finding a store that sells no less than eight different Egyptian beers. I know of no other bottle shop in Cairo and alcohol is not served at most establishments due to Islamic restrictions. Drinkie’s is two doors West of La Bodega restaurant in the same side of the street. I’m not certain about the address number (it could be "151", but I’m not sure) as the storefront didn’t have an address displayed. |
72 /100 La Bodega (Restaurant) 157 26TH OF JULY ST. La Bodega is located in the neighborhood of Zamalek, which is a 20-minute walk heading NorthWest from most hotels in Downtown Cairo (and is West of the Nile). The main reason to visit La Bodega is that it was the only place in Cairo that I could find which served Luxor Lager and Luxor Special. La Bodega also serves about five other Egyptian beers, which are commonly found in Cairo. The restaurant offers excellent food, by Cairean standards, and at US$11/entree, you won’t break the bank. Dress well, as the crowd is well-heeled and the restaurant is quite swank.brbr
How to find it: 26th of July Street is a major avenue running East-West through Zamalek, crossing the Nile, and then leading into Downtown Cairo. La Bodega (and Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop) are located on the North side of 26th of July Street, and are both on the first block West of the Nile.brbr
Look for an unmarked door at No. 157 and go inside, walking up the spiral staircase to La Bodega. Lonely Planet 2005 states that this restaurant is one of the best 4 in Zamalek. |
