“They have recently renovated, and you can tell they put a lot of thought into it, because it feels like Louisiana. Lots of seating, outside and in, with a huge bar that serves up all the standards, seasonals, bourbon series, and pilot brews you could imagine. Service was fantastic, knowledgeable and excited to be there, and they gave a great tour. No food here, have to go to the "brewpub" for that. If you are within an hour, aka NOLA or Baton Rouge, I would definitely make the trek here to check it out.“

“Stopped by on January 5, 2016 on the way home from New Orleans to Austin. It’s a little bit out of the way (for us), about 30 miles or so north of New Orleans, across Lake Pontchartrain. As others have mentioned, it’s a grocery store with a giant room of to the right selling all things alcohol related (beer, wine, and liquor). Most of the beer is cold. Nice selection, including many U.S. and European mainstays, plenty of local choices, and some of the wall stuff. Prices were reasonable.“

“Visited the brewery in February 2016. I had a great time. The tour was very interesting and the guide was knowledgeable about beer. They had 6 beers on tap that we could sample. The sample beer glasses were small, but it was plenty. The new tap room was very nice. They had at least 16 beers on tap, including several Bourbon Series beers that you can’t find in stores. I highly recommend a trip to this brewery.“

“Definitely a local in a really nice part of town. Service was superb, no half pints or samplers, so they just made something up for me and charged me a pint. Selection was funny. Bud, Pacifico and Rochefort all side by side. Surprisingly a few I hadn’t had and some great old stuff that doesn’t sell well. Food was great. Overall a great stop if you are in the area.“

“A great selection for a grocery store. Some really rare and odd things, enough that anyone could find something. Not to much help and prices were pretty low. Any bottle can be mixed which is a big plus. Worth the stop.“

“Impressive 6 pack and single beer selection of both local and regional craft brewed beers. Staff is knowledgeable and can provide good recommendations. If you like wine their selection is vast. Their beer, wine, and spirits room is very impressive for being located in a relatively small town.“

“Visited February 19, 2014.

Last stop of the night unless you count the Taco Bell right before getting back on the bridge to head back into New Orleans. This was another potential food stop that was visited after the kitchen had closed. That’s a shame as I was hungry, obviously if I decided to get Taco Bell right after (actually I like Taco Bell). Instead I filled my stomach with Orval. Orval is an awesome choice at a bar and I’ll tell you why: it doesn’t move, and thus has a higher chance of being at it’s peak age (18-24 months). This one was about 16 months old, so pretty close. Now, if you decide that you don’t want an Orval there are plenty of taps to choose from. I think that the tap list is less impressive than the bottle list but that’s another common theme in LA. Abita, Tin Roof, St Arnold, and New Belgium made up the majority of the tap list. They also had one of the beers from one of the breweries north of the lake called Chafunkta. If I hadn’t tried both of their offerings at Barley Oak I might have ordered a glass here.

Being late on a Wednesday night it was kind of dead here but the bartender was friendly and the one other customer was as well. Also, its in a quiet little town so parking is easy. Nice place. If I lived in the area I would stop in for trivia nights.“

“Visited February 19, 2014.

This is a diamond in the rough. It’s an unassuming grocery store in a quiet little country side town but they’ve got a pretty solid beer selection, probably the second best that I came across in Louisiana. In addition to the rest of the stuff that is available at some of the better beer stores in the area (big name Belgian, German, and British imports as well as Stone, Sierra, Dogfish Head, and other national brands) these guys have plenty of Bruery, Tilquin, and Fantome. Not a lot in common between those three but they are all big name and I didn’t come across them in most other stores. Also, the prices were pretty reasonable. The Tilquin was "only" $18 for the 750, which is high for what a gueuze should be but it’s cheap for what Tilquin goes for normally in the US.

They were in the process of closing up as I was pawing through the selection but the beer guy happily made suggestions. I ended up with a bottle of Unibroue’s Quelque Chose, not because I haven’t had it but because it’s good and because I wanted to buy something to support these guys. It’s a fun beer to share with someone. Good store, I just don’t understand the low scores, especially given the descriptions.“

“Visited September 2013. Somehow I forgot to rate this one then. Brewery tour started 2 pm on Friday and as it was the only tour on that day the place was absolutely packed. It was so full of people it wasn’t fun anymore. Yes, there’s free beer but still I chose not to wait until the tour starts but headed to the brewpub some miles east. I’m sorry but it was a disappointment. Fortunately they had that brewpub otherwise it would’ve been 86 miles drive for nothing.“

“There is a pretty decent selection of craft beer here both at room temp and cold. Unfortunately there are hoppy beers which should not be on the shelf due to age.“

“Cool place. Not as cool as the destin location, but cool. Food is good. Staff is friendly. Selection is decent, though for Louisiana, the selection is heavenly.“

“Tour was at the brewery itself, north of Abita Springs LA. 8 beers on tap including all the regulars, two different ’cause’ brews, and a seasonal. Ambiance is awesome. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, though they were a bit understaffed on the July day we visited. Beer is - FREE. Open bar, you pour your own, as much as you want from an hour before the tour to an hour after the tour. FANTASTIC! No food, but great apparel and glassware available for purchase. The tour itself was with an assistant brewer, nice guy that was knowledgeable but only took us into the brewhaus and tank areas. We were not allowed to see the bottling lines, which was disappointing but understandable. HIGHLY recommended if you’re in the New Orleans area (and way, way, way better than the Tabasco tour to the southwest).“

“Wow! How is it possible that I am the FIRST to rate this brewery?!?!? This brewery has been around since 1986, long before I could drink, and long before the "microbrew" craze hit the US. Abita quickly became the "offical/unofficial" beer of New Orleans (way more sold than Dixie beer, even blackened voodoo). Their beers are brewed using the crystal clear waters of Abita Springs, in a tiny little town north of New Orleans. Their beers are perfectly suited for the climate there (i.e. Hot and Muggy). Well balanced and easy drinking! Not to mention the brewpubs amazing food ! But this is a beer site... Did I mention how much the company contributes to the city of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast??? Check out their SOS (Save Our Shore, Unfiltered Pils), and Restoration Pale Ale!“

“We finally made the trip across the lake to check out the legendary beer selection at Acquistapace’s Supermarket. The liquor room is the size of an average convenience store! The beer coolers are loaded with a wide selection of brews of every type and seemingly from every country, all available singly. It’s a bit of a haul for me but I can see popping in there from time to time. If I lived nearby, I’d be in trouble!“

“Cool old building in downtown Covington. Decent tap and bottle selection, mostly macros but a nice stock of all the Abitas, some German taps, and a Bear Republic IPA. Good food and service.“

“UPDATE, REWRITE. The new Wine, Liquor, Beer department is now open! It has almost as much square footage as the entire supermarket used to have. Hundreds and hundreds of different beers. If you are into wine, thousands of different wines. They are now officially advertising, Best selection of beer, wine and liquor in Louisiana. All the beer, really, all of it, is sold cold.“

“Heluva beer bar for a small town in Louisiana. 32 taps and about 60 other beers in bottles. Bartenders use glasses approporate for the beer ordered. They have frequent keep the glass specials (I’ve got a lovely set of Sella Artois glasses as a result of this!) The place has a varied food menu. Burgers are absolutely fantastic. The first time I went there, the bartender told me: Our chef’s ability with fish is the best kept secret in Louisiana. She was not kidding. I ordered the catch of the day (drum, that day) and it was some of the most perfectly prepared fish I’ve ever eaten! Hours are 11:00 AM - till. Kitchen is open till 9:00 PM and sometimes later. Kids are welcome until 10:00 PM then its over 21 only.“
