64 /100 LANGE STRASSE 35 Brauhaus / restaurant located in the main shopping area in the city. Very cozy, with lots of wood and brass fittings. I started with a flight of four of the standard beers here, all of which were OK but nothing special. After I had eaten my food, solid stuff, served in decent portions, I tried one of the special beers, the Bourbon Chardonnay Bock. This was certainly more interesting than the standard beers but really overpriced. Service was OK. This is definitely not a must visit for me, probably because I am not a big fan of lager style beers. Would mainly recommend it for the food. |
78 /100 Braugasse (Bar) BRAUGASSE 2 Gorgeous arched-ceiling cellar pub full of knick-knackery and Gemütlichkeit, serving local Dettmolder beers and cheap pub snacks. The unfiltered lager might be made especially for the pub. The place is not ancient but could easily fool you into thinking so. It was worth staying the night in Detmold just to spend the evening here. Incidentally they also have two Ferienwohnung (holiday apartments). The town itself is underrated, with authentic Fachwerk timber-frame houses and lively market day. |
70 /100 LANGE STRASSE 35 Typical locals brewpub of the reliable sort, featuring big tasty food including some regional specialties, and the full range of Dettmolder beers. Multilevelel and stretched back a ways, with a simpler pub space on the main level for just drinking. No great standouts among the beers -- Thusnelda may have been a favorite -- but all were fresh and well-made. Very accommodating to groups and kids. |
54 /100 Löschdepot (Beer Store) THEODOR-HEUSS-STR. 18 Normal Löschdepot-Getränkemarkt. Not too big, but good selection of regional beers - and all beers from Detmolder Brewery. |
