88 /100 Schera’s Algerian American Restaurant (Restaurant) 107 S. MAIN ST Lovely Algerian-American restaurant in picturesque Elkader. You’ll find Mediterranean favorites (Falafel, Gyros) along with many more obscure (I assume Algerian) items, plus some American favorites (onion rings, ribs). All are excellent, and well-priced.
The tap and bottle selection is extensive and eclectic, due to a connection with the specialty beer distributorship run by the former owner.
Tap list is almost exclusively hard-to-find (for around here) contract/recipe brewers like Evil Twin, Mikkeller, Stillwater, Get Radical,..., brewed both in the US and Europe. Not too overpriced considering the obscurity ($3/4oz, $6/8oz). Bottle list is reserve-type items only. The beer list can be a bit challenging, with no macros or even macro-friendly craft substitutes. Maybe not the place for your Lite-loving father-in-law.
Staff is super-friendly and knowledgeable. Settling is small-town Main St. with a back patio overlooking the river and the town’s signature limestone bridge.
Highly recommended. |
96 /100 Schera’s Algerian American Restaurant (Restaurant) 107 S. MAIN ST One of the best beer bars I’ve been to. Visited on Sept. 20, 2014 for Zwanze Day 2014. 16 incredible taps this day. Awesome atmosphere and service. And a very cool high character town! |
100 /100 Schera’s Algerian American Restaurant (Restaurant) 107 S. MAIN ST The food is divine, the beer and wine selection is magnificent, and the atmosphere perfect. |
