“Just off Oldham Road, but still visible from it, this Marstons pub is probably the nicest looking of the several that frequent this area of Failsworth. The stone brickwork makes for an attractive interior, although the fixtures and fittings inside have clearly been updated and it looks fairly modern, the best area to sit in is immediately to your left after you enter - a square alcove area that is more intimate than the rest of the open plan pub. The bar against the rear wall has three ale pumps but you’ll only find Marston’s brews here from its Burton-on-Trent operation or the wider family of breweries it owns. There are keg options here though and I opted for the Mansfield Dark which proved to be an excellent and tasty choice. The pub is located next to the Church Inn which is a Robinsons pub, so you could feasibly make a mini pub crawl out of these two and be guaranteed to sample different ales in each.“

“This Robinsons pub is in a traditional pub building but the decor bridges the gap between traditional and modern, but it looks and feels fresh for it. Easily spotted if you’re on Oldham Road the door is in the centre of the building with the bar immediately to your left as you enter, although the hand pumps are on the other side to the small serving hatch you first arrive at. There’s a choice of four different Robinsons ales in cask and Old Tom if you prefer a bottle. To the right of the entrance is the pool room.“
