“If I could do ZERO STARS I would My wife has been wanting me to experience the food and service here... sadly, I got neither. We got here at 12:30 and were seated almost immediately, good sign. The server came, never introduced herself, took our drink order and walked away. In this time, another group came and was seated near us. We waited 15 minutes for a Raspberry Ale and an Arnold Palmer, which were dripping wet from the sides of the glasses when she brought them to us and walked away without ever saying a single word. At the same time, the server at the table next to us took the group's (of 4) drink and food order and we were never given the opportunity to place our order by our server. Another 15 minutes passed and still we were waiting while others got their food and/or drinks and it was obvious that we were being overlooked and after waiting SO LONG, it really started to feel intentional and I hate the thought of the color of my skin being a factor as their was only one other person who shared my skin color in the restaurant except he had the advantage of being with a much larger party of people of 'a different race', whereas it was just my wife and me. Finally after more than a 1/2 hour, we got up to leave, not having touched our drinks but being thoroughly full of 'IT' (lack of professionalism, lack of attentiveness, lack of service... oh, and lack of food. After my wife spoke to the owner, she came back to me upset and stated to me that she told him that I do reviews for Yelp! and his response was, “I hate Yelp!” I went in to talk to him, I didn’t raise my voice, nor was I disrespectful to him. He was very rude, extremely belligerent and refused to hear anything I had to say which was, “No, the customer IS NOT always right but customers are the reason that good businesses stay in business.” He had some back and forth words with my wife as I tried to diffuse the situation and he ultimately told us to “Take a hike!” How a business owner who is clearly disrespectful to people of color and women, and cares only about the customers who give him good reviews and so little about customers who have bad experiences at his restaurant can continue to be in business is beyond me. Perhaps the spotlight hasn’t been on the poor service and utter disrespect showered on unsuspecting patrons both in the restaurant and in their reviews is unthinkable… Consider the spotlight ON and I WILL NOT GO AWAY. Part of Quality Service is taking the bad with the good, improving on the good so it becomes great and listening to bad to fix what can break over time and it’s clearly broken here.“

“This small bottle shop has a good selection of local craft beer, with a bunch of things from small breweries. There are also some good choices from national and regional brands. They did not have some of the things I was hoping to come across, i.e. hard to find NE beers like Trillium and Hill Farmstead, but it is most likely those are not available anywhere in the area. Domaney's is probably your best bet in Great Barrington.“

“This is a big, popular place that is nice to hang out in. I like the wooden furniture and old school vibe. I think it has been here for a good long time; at least I have vague memories of coming here a couple of decades ago. The food is good quality pub group, and the beers are solid, but not out of the ordinary.“

“Visited on a Monday afternoon around a late lunch time. It is on the edge of Great Barrington and close to another business I can’t recall. Maybe a feed store? Either way, they have their own dedicated parking lot with plenty of space. They are in a pretty big building with a large outside seating area. Inside the place is pretty old school beer hall ambiance. A bit of a German Bier Hall feel if it was in a cabin. Lots of beer mugs hanging from the ceiling. My favorite part of my visit was that they do beer flights. I had one of those and called it a day. The beers they had were all their own, and they had good diversity. Each beer I tried was a fair representation of the style. Pricing was decent and service was friendly.“

“If nothing else this place is very consistent. Very busy Friday night crowd. Beer selection is very old-school and traditional. Had an IPA and a Pale Ale. Both were tasty and well made. Very reasonable beer prices. Food is classic pub food and generally reasonable too. Bartenders could have been a little more attentive though.“

“Stopped here recently while in the area. Medium sized store with a long row of beer coolers in the back. Lots of local and regional selections, plus the national mainstays. Something for everyone.“

“On my way back to PA from VT, I rubbernecked and found this place. Figured let’s give this a shot. In my opinion, it seemed like they had a pretty good English styled ales with a couple lagers. I had an open faced Reuben which was awesome. Good environment, nice and clean good service, bartender seemed to know his beers too of New England. I’d go back.“

“A basic bar in downtown GB. It’s a major locals hangout; there really aren’t that many bars in town so everybody tends to wind up here, it seems. The beer range is nothing special for the grizzled beer geek but they do have lots of the classic craft beer brands, such as Dogfish Head, Blue Point, Sierra Nevada, etc. Good value on the beers - most are $5-6 per pint. A few bottles supplement the keg lineup. Friendly enough service. There are a couple TVs showing whatever big sporting event is most pressing. They have a full menu here but I’ve never gotten food. If you’re in GB and want to hang out in a bar, this is your spot.“

“A pretty good BBQ joint on the somewhat barren stretch of Route 7 between GB and Sheffield. The food is solid and of reasonable value. Last time I was there the beer range was nothing to get excited about but still decent - some standard national craft beer brands, a few local options. Not a destination beer spot but a good choice if you are craving some barbecue while driving through town.“

“A bit of a local landmark, although the beers are pretty average. The place itself has been around for as long as I can remember - I was born in 1987 and grew up in the Berkshires and this place has always been there in my memory. The place itself has a well-worn feel to it. There’s tons of beer ephemera scattered about. They serve most of their draft beers from casks. The value is good, and you can get a sampler to try a bunch of beers. If you are a beer geek visiting the Berkshries this place is a must-visit.“

“Best option for craft beers in Great Barrington. Plenty of local beers, other MA and New England beers. Some ice ciders. Good value, friendly staff. Easy to find though parking can be annoying. As of my November 2013 visit they offered 10% off for purchases of six or more large bottles. Well worth a visit.“

“Pretty decent spot to buy craft beer in Great Barrington. (The only place with better range is Domaney’s, about one mile away; but there are some unique offerings here you won’t find at Domaney’s.) The selection includes some good, small MA breweries, lots of common national brands, other stuff from New England. Prices are decent. Worth a visit if you are passing by.“

“This brewery and pub is inside an old barn in Western Massachusetts’s artistic center. They keep 8-9 beers on tap and you can buy a 5-sample paddle. I liked the rustic atmosphere and the service was quite good. Their beers were decent but nothing extraordinary. I did like their blonde ale a lot. On the second floor you can see a barrels likely fermenting the latest batch. Friendly and efficient service. Excellent food. I had the ribs/brisket sampler which came with ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork and sweet potato fries. For an appetizer I enjoyed kielbasa with sauerkraut and spicy mustard and a green salad with a house vinaigrette dressing. If you are ever in Western, Massachusetts (USA) it is worth a stop-in.“

“I really enjoyed visiting this place. It was just on the outskirts of the tourist trap otherwise known as Lenox and Great Barrington, Massachusetts. But when you entered the cramp quarters you were greeted by shelves and shelves of liquor, wine, and decent beer section in a side room. Lots of local brews available from the Berkshires that may not be easily available elsewhere. Decent prices. A few rare selections buried on shelves and in the coolers. I really liked visiting this place.“

“Visited on 20 April 2010. Just popped in for a sampler while passing. A homely, unpretentious place in what looks like a converted barn. Most of the branding seemed to be Berkshire Mountain Brewery rather than Barrington brewery. Beers were solid enough, if unexceptional. Didn’t eat. A pleasant stop. I’d visit again if passing but probably wouldn’t make a lengthy detour.“

Route 7 Grill (Restaurant)
999 MAIN STREET
“Route 7 Grill promotes itself as an authentic b-b-q restaurant that features as much locally purveyed ingredients as seasonally possible. Within those constraints, they do a great job on the most important part, the b-b-q, add super side dishes, AND serve some surprising beers (as well as hard cider, mixed drinks and wine) that truly complement their food. The taps have a good selelction of craft and micro beers and they also have a small but well-chosen choice of bottles. The sum is greater than the parts in this place when you can enjoy great bar-b-que, a great IPA on tap or micro in the bottle and watch the game by the fireplace at the bar or listen to music on the summer patio.“

“Domaney’s is a family owned business that serves its customers with a well-rounded selection of beers, wines, liquors, cordials, ports and specialty food items to go with them. They will order almost anything you need that they don’t have in stock. You will be surprised by some of the unique items they do have in their wines, ports, grappas, local, craft-brewed and imported beer selections, single malt scotch or burbon choices. The whole staff is knowledgable and friendly so step up to the plate and ask what you want to know, even the score of tonight’s game. Maybe not the best in the state, but a great resourse of local passion for our local benefit.“

Route 7 Grill (Restaurant)
999 MAIN STREET
“Sits right along Route 7 outside of Great Barrington. This place has a nice outdoor seating area--both a deck and picnic tables in the grass--and will often have live music in the summer. It specializes in really great BBQ and seems to support the local food movement. We always stop in for dinner or lunch when we’re in the area to hike. Decent but limited beer selection. They typically seem to have an offering from Allagash, Troegs, and Lagunitas on tap, along with a few others and the typical macros and imports. We love it in particular because we typically have our dog with us, and they’re very accommodating and inviting when it comes to outdoor seating with a pet.“

“Stopped in here after dinner at the Barrington Brewery looking to score a couple more bombers of things that they were out of stock of at the brewpub. Nice selection of those, including two I couldn’t get at the brewpub, lots of other locals as well. Nice selection of sixes. Can’t say much of the service as I was not spoken to once by anyone in there until I brought my purchases up to the front. Nice selection, though there were a few bottles of some stuff I know hasn’t been made in close to two years, so I can’t vouch for the freshness of everything, but for being the only place around, probably not a bad local shop.“

“Told a half hour wait for a table, ended up with one after twenty minutes, so that’s good. On the downside there were a couple of open four tops but neither us or the couple in front of us were allowed to take them, maybe we should have teamed up. Atmosphere was interesting, overflowing with noisy toddlers and elementary school kids often just running rampant. While it’s nice that the place is family friendly I think people who can’t behave themselves should be kicked out of the place by management regardless of the age of the offenders. Service was stop and go. Server got one drink wrong and wouldn’t bring the correct replacement until we finished one of the two we just got (which included the wrong beer), forgot bread and butter that menu says comes with what we ordered, but was courteous and prompt. Food was good, nice to see a good amount of vegetarian stuff on the menu. Beers were decent with only one or two bombs, and the rest being solid. Probably worth a stop, but maybe not during the kiddie rush hour.“

“Stopped by here after visiting the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. Place is in an old barn so its fairly rustic. Some antique beer cans and beer serving trays on the wall. Kind of cozy. Food was pretty good. Simple, but good. Beer was pretty good too! At least the ones I had. Not outstanding mind you, but decent. Nice and fresh too. I live three hours away, so I may never be here again, but I’m glad I gave it a try.“

“Nice little countryside restaurant and tavern feel here. Lots of brew-world antiques on the walls, pies and cakes out in the open, rustic furniture and an overall humility that is refreshing. The beers here are quite pleasant, whether they are bottled or from the tap, but I haven’t found one that really stood out yet. The food we had was decent, but nothing more. Okay for lunch, I guess. I’d come back here for a snack and a couple of pints, but I wouldn’t come in looking for a beery masterpiece.“

“As far as stores in this area go, Domaney’s easily offers the widest selection. They stock bombers from Barrington Pub and Brewery, most of the other local breweries and have a large selection of imports. Not a place to go out of your way for, but definitely worth a look if in the area.“

“Stopped here earlier today for an early lunch. A true gem of a place. Inside looks like a converted barn with a restaurant on one side and pub in the other. Not much to look at, but welcoming. Food is great and the brewer knows what he’s doing as every beer I had was very well done. They offer growlers as well as bombers to go. Worth visiting if in the area.“

“We stopped in for dinner, after not having been there in a few years. I still like the ambiance here, being constructed in an old barn. Many exposed beams, and a few free-standing fireplaces make this place quite cozy. The beer selection is good, with the typical cross section of offerings in a good brewpub. The beer itself is OK: the few I’ve had won’t win any awards, but they won’t turn you off either. The food was good on this trip, as both my wife and myself had the prime rib. They have a decent children’s menu also. We’ve had good lunches there in the past. Worth a stop.“

“This fun little store in Great Barrington has a very good selection scattered about the right-hand side of the store. There isn’t a lot of each, but you will still find a few excellent bottles such as Lost Abbey, Allagash, Alesmith, etc. The draw here, unless you are in the Berkshires and this is the only store around you, is that you can get bottles from the Great Barrington brewpub nearby. There were 6 kinds when I was there, all kept cool in the fridge. A quality store, this is, but of course it cannot compete with some of the best in the state.“

“I agree with Glouglouburp, this pub was a real surprise. I looks like a regular yocal pub that serves home beer. We’ve been to places like this a lot of times. But the quality of the beers was very surprising, they have a tipycal beer menu, blonde ale, APA, Brown Ale, Stout and such, nothing original there but just, good solid beer.“

“What an unexpected nice surprise. The biggest room is more dedicated to the restaurant aspect and the smallest room is more a pub. I like when resto-pubs provides both atmospheres like that. Although I must say that overall the place feels like a redneck hangout. Very country-ish. We were 5 and the waiter got 2 or 3 orders totally wrong (wrong beer, wrong size, or both). Large amount of personalized mugs hang on top of the bar for their regular customers. Who drinks good beer in a mug? 6 taps when I was there. The nice surprise was how good the beers were. The beers ranged from good to excellent. Truly unexpected in a place like that. Didn’t try the food. Worth the detour for the beer quality alone.“

“I liked all of the antique bottles and beer trays. IMpatient waitress who didn’t really pay attention. She seemed harried and frazzled even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. I ordered a reuben and it was pretty good. I wasn’t crazy about their beer. It was interesting to try, but it’s not worth going back for.“

“I was very excited to finally go here and was looking forward to having a cool brewpub closeby. Sadly, I was sorely let down in every aspect by the Barrington Brewery. The ambiance of the restaurant part seemed more fitting to a waffle-type restaurant as opposed to a brewery. Yeah, they had cool old beer trays on the walls and old beer cans on shelves, but it still seemed more like Der Waffle Haus on "Dead Like Me". The bar area looked cooler with every surface being covered with coasters from other brew pubs. The selection was ok. I ordered the beer sampler, but the server wouldn’t let me choose which beers I wanted. (WTF?) The food sounded good on the menu, but I was a little put off by their charging an extra $4 for a small order of fries, which do not come with the $8 burgers. The burger I ordered should have been in that "Where’s the beef?" commerical from the 80’s because it was very small compared to the much larger bun. Also no lettuce, tomatoes or anything else. Just a meat patty on a huge bun. The beers themselves were average at best. Service was below average as the waitress spent more time talking to someone she knew at a nearby table than taking our order, and she was nowhere to be found when we wanted to pay our bill. A stunningly sub-par experience all around. Stay away!“

“Despite the previous ratings, this is, by far, the best beer selection I’ve found in the Berkshires. Good selection of stuff from Ommegang, Lagunitas, Chimay, as well as local breweries, and a decent selection of Belgians. I went giddily running over to grab a basket to fill up after seeing what they had in stock. They have the best price on Ommegang Three Philosophers that I’ve seen (over a buck cheaper than) anywhere else in the state. They also appear to have a good wine and cheese selection.“
