“Both locations have plenty of selection. The newer Naperville location has many taps and bottles/cans to purchase. The beers we tired were all decent. The new place has tall ceiling and is larger than the original place in Lombard.“

“local is a small building that may easy to miss. Family owned and operated, the barkeep know his product. Lots of wine barreled aged ales, sours and Farmhouse styles. They add a variety of fruit and sometimes hops to their ales. seating is tight.“

“Small, family run, Saison-focused brewery & newer taproom in Lombard, IL. brewing 1.5 barrel batches with an emphasis on oak fermentation. The brewery is located in Flesk Brewing's previous location in north Lombard. I tend to frequent the comfortable, newly opened taproom in downtown Lombard with 12 oft changing offerings on tap dispensed to proper, house glassware, opportunities for bottle sharing, and competently tended by Matt & Billy.“

“Visited for dinner with friends on a Sunday evening. Typical Yard House design, big and open with a huge bar and restaurant tables and booths around the outside. Beer and food menu were Yard House standard, which is always good. Quite a few local Chicago options available. Service was excellent, enjoyed my evening.

70 = **½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Expeditiously took over the Champp's spot with an expansive, bright, and busy venue. Happy hour on Friday was a hit with reduced prices on appetizers, and the large selection of drafts. Service was efficient and friendly. Will revisit.“

“Attractive front bar, with dark wood top & rail, tin ceiling, and large flat screens. Large chalkboard for current food & drink specials. Restaurant to the back, with secondary rear entrance & exit, and decent rear parking. Good selection of macros & crafts. Limited but tasty grill faire, appetizers, salads, & sides. Mac & cheese & grilled cheese for the kids. Classy atmosphere for such a new place. Seemed to just pop up unnoticed in town, and I live about 8 blocks away! I hope that the train patrons will also take notice since a block from the station.“

“Stopped in with my bro after dinner. I really liked the setup, quasi industrial setting with the tanks and some barrels right behind the bar. There was some outside seating as well. Service was great and even chatted with us about the upcoming BA release. I am guessing 5.5 ounce pours for $2 as the sampler/flight option and 10 beers on tap. Location is set off from Roosevelt and right next to Whirly Ball. Totally worth the visit!“

“Standard RB set up, nothing new...The beers were disappointing for 2 reasons, 1. 2 of their seaonsals were gone and not replaced with anything and 2. their samples only consisted of the RB standard beers and wouldn’t let you sub out like other locals. Of the 2 seasonals they were ok, nothing special. You can skip this RB.“

“I successfully ordered from here recently. Special request was served. Communication was satisfactory. The key is that I can get local beers not widely distributed, viz. Pipeworks, and other upcoming very new and small breweries (where I can get better stock of new releases). I will order again. Had it shipped to a FedEx as the timing was good for the window of pickup. “

“Stopped in try a beer on the way to a wedding. A large restaurant with a large granite square bar and a good number of TVs. Service was good and bartender was knowledgeable. Beers were hit and miss but price was fine. Had the nachos which were quite nice. A solid rock bottom.“

“Finally got a chance to hit up our favorite place to score some brews while in school. I remember this place being nicer inside, seems kind of dumpy now. Nice selection of brews and prices were very good. There were a few things noticeably cheaper than Binnys. Sentimental factor gives this a higher overall rating.“

“Visited October 2010.

Arrived pretty late, after about 4 other stops so I didnt eat, just got a sampler. To my surprise they had 3 barrel aged beers on tap. One of them was pretty good (a cherry bourbon stout) the rest were a bit too boozy for their own good. The non barrel aged stuff was alright too.

Service was pretty good but it was late and there werent a ton of customers in the building, so who knows how it is when it’s busy.

Some day I’d like to revisit the place.“

“A very good Rock Bottom. They had the 4 standard RB beers and then 4 or 5 additional beers, including an awesome schwartzbier and a tasty malt liquor. Good service, nice ambiance and the typical RB menu. Couldn’t ask for more.“

“Stopped by to kill some time and was able to knock out 8 samples of their beers. 5 regular corp. beers and 3 specialty beers. The place is pretty nice with a view of all their tanks and all thier awards on the walls. The crowd on a Tuesday 5ish is what you may expect, an afterwork happy hour crowd (40-50 yr olds). I did not try the food but I’d expect it to be like all other RBs. Selection is those 8 beers, but I do like that they offer them all as sampler size. Overall a nice place but a bit corporate to me.“

“A nice singles selection, and a very good selection of craft beers overall. With the Chicago area lacking places that offer singles, Famous stands out as one of the better beer stores in the area.“

“Quality: Good. Everything seems to be pretty new, and they definitely turn over the build a sixpack inventory pretty quickly, so I don’t really worry about freshness there. Service: I’ve never really had anyone come up to me and ask if I needed help, which I don’t have too much of a problem with. The problem is that the way the store is set up, the guys stocking the place are constantly coming right through the craft aisle (which is quite narrow) with carts full of cases of BMC and the like--gets to be kind of a pain. Selection: This place has always got plenty of local six packs as well as pretty good stuff from around the country. This is especially with regard American crafts. The Beglian selection is a little weak, although they do have a few nice items. What I really like is the constantly well-stocked inventory for building a six pack, or just buying a single bottle or two. Nothing like stopping a couple days a week and deciding which bottle or two you want to try that night. Value: Prices are quite reasonable. This is by far the cheapest place to buy Rochefort around here that I have found ($5, $5, and $6 for 6, 8, and 10, respectively).“

“Nice little brew pub. Clean, upscale, and family friendly. For my money its one of the better places to hit for a bite and a brew in the area. The food is good, service is quick and light hearthed but respectful, Their brews are always tasty. Selection is a bit limited for brews that they don’t make.“

“UNLIKE BINNY’S(ge & dg), YOU HAVE A SIGNIFICANT SELECTION OF SINGLES HERE. AMBIENCE IS NEGLIGIBLE! AMBIENCE DOESN’T HELP ME SELECT BEER. THE PLACE IS CLEAN AND BEER IS ON A SHELF OR IN COOLERS. SELECTION IS ON PAR WITH BINNY’S + OR-. BEST OF ALL, IT’S CLOSE TO THE CASA!! SERVICE IS THERE IF YOU NEED IT.“

“I had a later afternoon flight out, and a meeting on this side of town and wanted to visit Lunar brewing. To kill time, I hit a few of the local bottle shops listed in the area. Big space in a strip mall. Big selection, both in coolers and on racks. Focus is mostly on domestic craft - they had some labels I hadn’t seen at other stores (Southern Star was the one I remember). Import selection wasn’t great, though had a bunch of obscure countries is that’s your thing. They singled out a ton of beers, though prices seemed a bit inflated on those. Overall, cool store, well worth the visit if you are in the area. They had a nice fine food / deli selection as well.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“It’s weird, this is one of my favorite brewpubs. It definitely pushes the line of suburban chain, but somehow, it doesn’t cross it. Very high quality beer coming out of this location and the service is top notch. Even the Chad and Trixie crowd doesn’t bother me too much.“

“Met the brewer, Tim, while there...super nice guy and he bought us a beer too!!! Very cool!!!! We didn’t eat but it is a Rock Bottom so the food is surely the same...had a bunch of his seasonals and they were all absolutely spot on! “I’ve been here several times within the last year, as I was staying at the Westin across the parking lot! It had the typical warm, Rock Bottom feel to it with a nice architectural twist (see frankenkitty’s review). They seem to have 8-10 beers on at a time, and in the tradition of Rock Bottom Chicago, they’re experimenting with barrel-aging and more exciting styles.. the regular house beers are powerfully average, but there’s potential with some of the other stuff. The food is good (I tend to like Rock Bottom food) and service is usually good, but better in the dining room than at the bar. This is a good stop.“

“I’ve been living within 3 miles of this place for 15 months and never really thought to go in there, partly because I don’t go by it that much. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The selection and commitment to beer is better than at the Forest Park location. The beer selection is also better than the Binny’s Glen Ellyn, which is where I usually go. The beer to wine space ratio is about 40-60 versus about 25-75 at Binny’s. One pleasant surprise was finding the Mikkeller Beer Geek breakfast which I hadn’t previously seen anywhere in the Chicago market (or any market for that matter). They have some different stuff like mini-kegs of Baltika 7 and the new Sam Adams Imperial Pils. They also have a make-your-own 6 pack section, which is limited but has quality beers unlike most stores looking to get rid of their crap. Of my 4 go-to West Suburb beer stores: Binny’s Glen Ellyn, Sam’s Downers, Sal’s Beverage World Elmhurst and now Famous, I like the beer selection at Famous the best and will be frequenting it more often.“

“Visited here to kill some time after shopping last night and have to echo the others on the decor. Felt a little corporate and deffinitely more restaurant then bar, but very nice. Busy buzzing atmosphere full of the afore mentioned yuppies and mall goers, of which I was one so I can’t complain I guess. The place is practically in a mall afterall. Strong Ale was served up at a nice temp, but the IPA came out ice cold. Service was mind numbingly slow as the bartenders seemed to be running in circles filling orders from the restaurant. My original bartendress dissappeared after I had my second brew, never to be seen again. I hate having to ask for another beer after waiting with an empty, and even more hate having to ask to pay my bill after sitting around empty for 10 minutes. They needed more bartenders for the busy shopping season. After many more visits service has been consistently better, and updated as such. Decent pub food. Brewer is really starting to shine with some of his seasonal offerings.“

“Stained glass and sharp geometrics pay homage to Frank Lloyd Wright at this incarnation of Rock Bottom. Pleasing woods in a variety of colors and finishes blend with the sedate beauty of acid-washed slate floors. Stainless steel trough sinks in the bathrooms are just one example of many light-hearted concepts sparked with innovation.

Pub food menu offers the usuals in hearty portions. Wait staff and bartenders are knowledgable and alot of fun (plus I think we spurred bartender Joe onto a hunt for some quality mead). A spare lunchtime crowd made for quiet surroundings.

Beer menu finds the RB-corporate standards spiced up by the diversity of some of brewmaster Chris Boggess’ specials. The quality of all beers is "on".

Easy to find and close to shopping... we usually head over to Oakbrook rather than Yorktown Mall, but Rock Bottom is still a hop, skip and jump. “

“11/17/07: Went last night after seeing online that they have their 2 FoBab Silver Medal winning beers on tap: Argus India Brown & Creme Dreme. Place was packed and clientele on avg. about 10 yrs older than last time. When I ordered the Hogs Head Bitter on cask, bartender Ryan hooked me up w/ samples of the CO2 and Nitro versions as well. That gesture aside, Ryan is one of the best bartenders I’ve come across in awhile. 9/15/06: This is the nicest Rock Bottom I’ve been to in terms of decor. They spent some money on it. Now, if they could only make good beer! The Oatmeal Stout I had was decent. If they took a page out of the downtown location and always had 3-4 higher test offerings for the beer geeks, this would be a joint worthy of repeat visits. The scene was pretty much all 20 somethings, except for our group. It’s only a 10 minute drive from my house, so if they ever raise the caliber of their beer, I’ll be going back.“

“Mark nailed it when he listed the scene as yuppies and mall shoppers... although he neglected to mention the occasional beer geeks like us. Plenty of room and parking with a nice island bar. The menu features the usual RB food. The bar staff is friendly and seems like they were trained in their brews. Good location, as Sam’s is just a few minutes away. And the beers give me hope for the place. Nothing outstanding yet, but solid. Very nice APA on tap. I’ll be stopping back.

ElGaucho, SubstanceT, RAYBOY01 and I stopped in for a quick one after leaving Emmett’s. Quite a different crowd. Almost too much eye candy for this aging sot, including a lovely mixologist who also tends bar at Lunar Brewing. She spotted RAYBOY01 and me and distanced herself to the other side of the bar!“

“Hey, I’m first to add this place. This is one of the "new" Rock Bottoms, with the layout they’ll be using to make a big expansion. Large, airy floor plan, high enough for the brewing works. Nicely appointed island bar. Decor is somewhere between Crate & Barrel and some Euro-kitsch. But my server had been well briefed on his beers and seemed happy to take care of the discerning beer geek. Decor is free of the kitschy antiques, and the only exposed brick was built around the support columns. One wall displayed several medals and GABF certificates, until I got closer and saw that they were just copies from other RBs. Brewmaster is Chris Boggess, a transfer from the RB in Long Beach, CA. This is a new outlot in Yorktown Mall, just off Highland Ave. north of the E-W Tollway. I only had one beer so far, a mere pilsener, but I liked it. And let’s face it, without decent beer, this is just another Applebee’s. Main entrees run a bit pricey, but if you get there Mug Club card, you get value added with every ten visits, on your birthday, on a whim, etc. And they’ve been running more lunchtime and happy hour food specials, too. Plus a beer of the day for just $3.“

“Nat a bad place to pick up some decent brews if you’re in the area. There’s nothing too exotic, but good decent local brews and some of the newer offerings that have hit the area. Friendly staff. I managed to find something that I haven’t tried yet, and that always makes me happy.“

“On my Crusades-like quest to find Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, I stumbled upon this place. At first glance, I thought I might be in luck, but they didn’t have any (they had the Demolition, another GI "Special Reserve," instead). What they did have was a nice selection of singles and sixers of regional beers and other craft brews, nothing too rare or special, but fairly comprehensive. I was also impressed that they had the new Sam Adams Utopia available, as I didn’t see it down the road in Glen Ellyn’s Binny’s. As a bonus, they have a section with glassware and pariphenalia, mostly for Guinness or the macros, but some widely available imports as well (like Celebrator, etc.) They also have a deli with food that I didn’t sample. Great local store, but you can find better in the suburbs if you’re willing to drive.“
