70 /100 Garrison (Bar) 19-21 LEEMING STREET The Garrison is billed as Peaky Blinders themed pub, but don't worry, it's hardly noticeable except for the name and some Remembrance Day posters around. It's a decent beer pub, although in retrospect I can't remember any beers from the associated brewery Moody Fox. There were about five or six on for a Bank Holiday Friday night, although there are about 8 pumps in total. Bradfield, Great Heck, Black Iris and Little Critters are represented, all sessionable or slightly stronger. Relaxed, friendly and comfortable, and less than ten minutes from the train station. Not a destination but worth a look if you find yourself in Mansfield (maybe not on match days as I'd imagine it's rammed). |
64 /100 Railway Inn (Bar) 9 STATION STREET Pleasant pub, not surprisingly near the railway station. It isn't a beer pub, although the four handpulls offered interesting enough beers by regional brewers. I opted for a Titanic which was in very good condition. This place may be worth checking out as there aren't many great pubs in Mansfield, and its proximity to the station makes it convenient. Also, it's very cheap (less than £3 per pint in 2019)! |
74 /100 Railway Inn (Bar) 9 STATION STREET Small pub full of friendly locals on my visit. On this occasion 3 of the 4 handpumps were Full Mash beers, and I opted for their Bhitri IPA which was a very reasonable 2,80 / pint |
68 /100 BOLD FORESTER Good selection of craft / real ale |
64 /100 Railway Inn (Bar) 9 STATION STREET A traditional pub with several small rooms and low ceilings. There are four casks - one Blue Monkey and three Dukeries when I was there.

60 /100 Home Brewers Centre (Homebrew Shop) 31 RATCLIFFE GATE I’m not a home brewer but those who are might be interested in this place. It seemed to me to be very well stocked with anything and everything a home brewer might need. You can stock up on other essentials nearby as well - it’s almost next door to the Brown Cow and at the end of a little parade which includes a butcher’s, a sweet shop, a toy shop, an electronic cigarette shop, an Indian restaurant, a sandwich shop, an insurance broker’s and an “adult” shop. The world is your oyster in this part of Mansfield!

72 /100 Brown Cow (Bar) 31A RATCLIFFE GATE A traditional roadside pub just outside the town centre but worth the short walk. There are two or three rooms on different levels, nicely refurbished, and it has a relaxed feel. There were six hand pumps with two Raw beers and some well chosen guests. The beer was in excellent condition and the service was friendly.

62 /100 Stag & Pheasant (JDW) (Bar) 4 CLUMBER STREET A large modern Wetherspoon place, quite attractive in its way. It had the best beer selection of the three ‘spoons in Mansfield, specialising in casks from the Pheasantry brewery.

60 /100 Widow Frost (JDW) (Bar) LEEMING STREET A standard ‘spoons but more genteel than the Court House, as evidenced by the higher prices (£2.70 for breakfast and 90p for coffee). There were ten cask beers on offer

56 /100 Court House (JDW) (Bar) MARKET PLACE A standard Wetherspoon’s presenting a nice Georgian facade to the market place and the feel of a day care centre inside. Apart from the staff, I must have been one of the youngest people in there, although it may transform into a youngsters’ haunt at night. The breakfast was exceptionally good value - £2.15 for the traditional breakfast and 65p for coffee!

78 /100 Railway Inn (Bar) 9 STATION STREET Cracking traditional boozer close to the railway station. Friendly staff, friendly locals and a rotating selection of 4 guest beers. Food looked good and was home cooked. Handy for Mansfield Town FC too which is a 5 minute walk away via a footbridge |
82 /100 Brown Cow (Bar) 31A RATCLIFFE GATE This is an Everards Project William pub in conjunction with Raw Brewery. 10 hand pulls plus a craft keg. Friendly owners, excellent service, broad range of ale. Very similar to Stoke’s Titanic pubs but more guest beers and the beer is much cheaper. |
64 /100 Widow Frost (JDW) (Bar) LEEMING STREET Up the hill from the northern part of the Market Square, this Wetherspoon pub in a brick 20th century period building has a very regular soft furnished traditional appearance. The entrance is at one corner of the large rectangular open plan room with long service area against the back wall. It’s comfortable without being spectacular and has a decent choice of rotating ales which is probably the best reason to visit. |
60 /100 Stag & Pheasant (JDW) (Bar) 4 CLUMBER STREET A Wetherspoon pub in a brand new brick building with a historical nod in its name to a former pub on the same street. That’s about it as far as history is concerned as this a very modern, and slightly funkier looking than its two sister pubs of this chain in the town. Being a Lloyds Bar this is where musical driven nightlife will be found at the weekends and probably a younger crowd, although it’s no less of a place to sample the regular food menus or find some rotating ales of interest. In a large open plan room there’s some unusual balcony tables on the way up the stairs to the toilet area. |
58 /100 Court House (JDW) (Bar) MARKET PLACE Situated on the southern side of the Market Square in a fine former bank and court house, it’s actually slightly disappointing inside with a very ordinary pub decor not befitting the historic relevance of this very central building in Mansfield, although the stone walls on the way up to the toilet provide something for those who enjoy the history of many Wetherspoon buildings.
Nevertheless you’ll find the usual Wetherspoon nuances, menus and rotating ales. |
