54 /100 28-30 MARINE TERRACE
“Seafront venue over two floors with a traditional design for the chain in the interior. The bar is at the back left hand side and there's limited seating on the terrace upstairs, which offers views across the beach.“

“In the Old Town a block or so inland. This is a heavily wooden nautical themed bar with sawdust but not the spit on its floorboards. I guess it's for effect as it's a nice laid back place to drink, and there's no shortage of that with three cask, seven kegs and ten ciders.“

“A short walk west on the main road out of the station. This is a two roomed shop unit micropub with the bar at the back of the rear one. Three cask and a couple of real ciders should be the minimum available. It has stone floors and wooden furniture and many maps of world places on the walls.“

64 /100 UNITS 7 & 8 MARGATE HARBOUR ARM, STONE PIER
“One of a few food and and drink venues built into the Harbour wall facing the town and has outdoor seating with views of this. This is a drink venue only. It's a small 'shack' in style and design with bench seating and a couple of tables. The tiny service area in one corner is ceremonial as tales are gravity dispensed from a room next to it. Cider and tasting paddles are also available. It has a nautical theme throughout.“

“Seafront taproom with brewing equipment in the rear of the venue and bar in the middle. It's all open plan but some seating is split-level. It has a somewhat modern Ikea style look about the place. Plenty of its own brews are available also via a four paddle tasting tray. You can do this twice if you want to get through most of them. There's no outdoor space though.“

“Next door to XYLO, and more appealing in the summer than its neighbour given it has a terrace seating. This micropub's frontage is mostly glass so it affords good views of the beach whatever time of year, and it is designed to open up in good weather. It's also a good place to sit and watch the tide rapidly envelop the sands (or vice versa). There's a few real ales and a couple of real ciders from local producers available.“

“Eclectic shop unit American themed bar with all manor of kitsch to transport you back half a century or so, including barber chair seats. Much of this is perception though as a closer inspection shows there's quite a British and European feel to the decorations. Nevertheless this is a mini 'roadhouse' in Margate! Two local cask ales and slightly more real ciders are available.“

62 /100 ADDINGTON STREET
“Back street traditional wood and brick pub a couple of blocks east of the uninspiring high street shops. Three-roomed and split-level with the bar in the central area. It's quite a nice set-up but off the tourist trail so may struggle a little with the competition not so far away. Something local should be here on cask.“

“Visited on 19th July 2021 during Margate pub crawl. Very friendly, relaxed vibe. Seating both inside and out affording views over a sunny sea. Staff are enthusiastic and welcoming, and the beer range was superb both in terms of home brewed choices and adventurously selected guests. Twelve keg taps plus a range of other drinks . No cask. Well worth a visit! Handy for the Two Halves next door.Recommended.“

“About eight beers on tap from memory and I think a small number of bottles. Great quirky atmosphere.“

“Small micropub with nice views over the harbour from the outside tables. Have to use the somewhat unpleasant public toilet nearby.“

“Loved this place - Micropub on the harbour, a lovely spot. Service very friendly, it is a micropub so just a few beers available, mostly local. Had a milk stout here that was in absolutely superb condition.“

30 /100 28-30 MARINE TERRACE
“This 'Spoons is on the seafront amongst the amusement arcades and other resort detritus. The curious name comes from an actual mechanical elephant that used to give rides up and down the seafront here. I normally think that, whilst they'll never be amongst the top rated places, 'Spoons are fairly reliable for reasonable food, good service and a decent chance of a new cask rate in reasonable nick. Not this one. It's probably the worst 'Spoons I've ever been in. The staff were surly and disinterested, the one new cask rate for me was in pretty poor condition, and the food was slightly burnt, lukewarm and missing some components. A special lowlight of our visit were the underground toilets. As far as I could tell tell they must have been converted from public toilets at some point, and had possibly not been redecorated (or even cleaned) since then - they were filthy and stank. Maybe I could have excused some of this if the pub was busy, but it wasn't - there were only two other customers there. Dreadful place - avoid at all costs.“

“A fairly classic Kent-style micropub. Small range on cask, with an emphasis on local breweries. Also come ciders. Fair pricing, friendly service. Nice ambiance - the place is right near the beach. Given the convenient location (and proximity to the Bottle Shop, which is just a few doors down), this is a worthwhile stop if you are visiting Margate.“

“A small pub with limited selection: three or four beers on draft (mostly local stuff), six+ ciders. Fair prices, friendly service. Fun ambiance, and a bit ramshackle. Not a destination pub in any regard, but worth checking out if in the area. FYI, there are some decent eateries out on the same pier as this pub, so you can take them all in in one go.“
