60 /100 OPB (Bar) CHANÁ 2120 Located inside Mercado Fernando, this is an unsuspecting place right at the back of the market. Taplist is a bit confusing, as there are many brewery names written on the chalkboard, but it looked like only the ones with specific styles written next to them were actually on tap. Half pints and pints available, though staff will allow tastes before you order. Okay priced, decent service. Not a top spot in town, but it’s worth a stop if you’re visiting Matute around the corner. |
74 /100 DR. PABLO DE MARÍA One of the top spots in Montevideo nowadays, with 40 taps, most (~35) of which are populated with beer. Flights of 4 x 100ml for 230 UYU (about $6 USD), very cheap for the city. Beer list is maybe half their own beers and half guests. Their own beers were mostly dialed in okay, but with nothing extraordinary. Amazingly friendly service, speaking some English and making our time there extremely enjoyable. Great quality food as well, with even some vegan options. Along with Malafama, one of the two mandatory beer stops in town. |
72 /100 MALDONADO 1970 One of the best spots in the city, with as many as 12 beers on draft. Full or half pours available, and staff will do tastes. Good service, with some English spoken. Lots of hazies on tap, but also some west coasts and lagers that were all dialed in well. The place itself is like a modern warehouse-style tasting room that's common in North America. These guys definitely know what they're doing. Mandatory stop. |
62 /100 JUAN PAULLIER 1436 Cool spot near the centre, with 24 taps, 6-8 of which were their own beers. They have flights of 4 for about $15 USD (!), which are customizable. No English was spoken at all by any staff, so pointing and google translate got us by. We got two flights, and after flight one, they washed out all the glasses — I think they only have 4 taster size glasses, lol. Nothing incredible here but decent spot for Montevideo. |
64 /100 SOLANO GARCÍA 2576 The only place I found in the whole city serving good beer that opened earlier in the day, so this was our first stop. 14 taps, 6 of them house beers, the rest guest taps. Full pints and half pints available, and staff are happy to do tasters. One bartender spoke a bit of English, so we were able to communicate without too much issue. Their house beers were all competent but nothing special. From the outside, the place looks run down, but inside, it's set up quite nicely and semi-modern. Worth a stop if in town. |
64 /100 Sinestesia (Restaurant) YACARE 1568 Visited 1/1/2019. New Year’s Day and none of the places I’d researched were open. Of the places in the immediate area of the port catering for the influx of day cruise visitors, this was the only one I found which did anything other than FNC beers - a fridge with a dozen or so beers including four from Cabesas Bier amongst others. Service was very friendly and English speaking. Cafe rather than restaurant food served. Nice visit, though was gutted to find out too late that just around the corner was a brand new craft beer place called Baika Birras - and it was open! Next time I'm in Montevideo (?) I will check that out too. |
48 /100 The Shannon (Bar) BARTOLOMÉ MITRE 1318 I was there like 4 or 5 years ago, and it seemed the nearest and most decent location to have some craft in the city. Not so many options at that time (some taps were OK, an Irish Ale was all right), but the service took a while. Nevertheless, good to have a place to drink something else other than Norteña in the city. |
60 /100 The Shannon (Bar) BARTOLOMÉ MITRE 1318 This is number one spot in Uruguay and one to head in Montevideo. They have Davok and Mastra beers on tap. Also some other (less interesting ones) on bottles. Some English was spoken. Otherwise quite typical cozy Irish-style pub. |
84 /100 Burlesque (Bar) LUIS ALBERTO DE HERRERA 1136 First off. I think the Google maps link is wrong, it puts this place deep in the city when its really near the coast. The address is correct but its between the world trade center and the rambla. I actually stumbled onto it by accident. Good thing because I would have relied on Google maps. This is a pretty cool place. Had a few taps with a Uruguayan microbrewery on tap called Davok. Turned out to be pretty good, it doesn’t seem to be in the system though. Bottle wise, they had a good selection of south American beers like Eisenbahn and macro layers. Had some European beers like duvel and chimay. Overall, a good selection given where they are. Staff was really friendly and helpful to me since I didn’t speak spanish. Really seemed like a locals place and had a nice atmosphere. Well worth checking out if your in Montevideo. |
80 /100 Burlesque (Bar) LUIS ALBERTO DE HERRERA 1136 Nice place, one of the best to drink beer in Montevideo. |
88 /100 Burlesque (Bar) LUIS ALBERTO DE HERRERA 1136 The best Pub in Uruguay! |
