70 /100 VOLKOVSKOE SHOSSE 12 Was on a tour of the brewery in the summer of 2015. Very big plant, tasting, worth a visit. |
80 /100 VOLKOVSKOE SHOSSE 12 This one is truly interesting. What has started some years ago as a regional beer producer now has grown into a monster-brewery - biggest in Europe in terms of brewing capacity! However the best part about it is unlike most of the other brewing giants these guys make some real good beer. Not saying that all they make is great, but among big line of their brands (including 2 pseudo-breweries) they have a lot of great stuff. To name just a few: Hamovnicheskoe Pilsner, Hamovnicheskoe Stolovoye, Hamovnicheskoe Stout, Trehgornoe Spring Pilsner, Volkovskaya Pivovarnya Porter... Master-brewer Mikhail is a really cool guy, taking great pride at what he’s doing - he’s constantly experimenting with something new and the result is constantly growing line of cool beers across all styles. You don’t expect a giant brewery doing IPAs, porters, stouts, bocks, Belgian style bottle fermented beers and so on... - so this is really something fresh on Russian beer market. In terms of your visit, for now, they have a brewery shop where you can get about 10 of their beer on tap in PET bottles, plus all the rest in glass bottles (and thats a very long list). I was lucky to get much more on my visit - to begin with - small experimental brewery where Mikhail is working on his new beers, on-site cafe where they have 10+ of their beers on draft and a small bar for brewery’s business clients - what a day it was! :-))) |
