“Almost hidden away in the middle of a residential area, about ten minutes walk from the train station. Quite a disappointment to come here only to find that they had run out of their own beers. Our visit was perhaps too early in the week. A decent little local pub with light interiors, wooden benches, etched glass windows and carpeted floors. A rather small half-moon bar with four hand-pumps. Polite service. (Visited with Finn 02.10.2018).“

“A central located JDW pub on the other side of the train station and in a former police station building. Ten cask ale, half of them rotating. Tasty vegetarian lasagne. Polite service and good value, as usual. (Visited with Finn, 02.10.2018).“

“Backstreet local. 6 casks. 5 kegs. None of their own beers on when we visited. Only a few empty bottles.“

“(2013 review) Standard JDW. Beer selection is not in any way interesting but the food is cheap. As of 2013, there is nothing better for beer selection or value in Neath.“

“A back-street boozer in a part of Neath you would never stumble upon if you wandered around for several days - even as a Neath resident. At night it has a homely welcoming feel walking up to it.

The pub itself is pretty small. It feels more like a working man’s club than a pub, with vertical blinds bringing a touch of nursing home chic. Local clientele with a strong bias towards the older generation and males. Friendly patrons with a couple of people saying hello. It does have a ’local pub for local people’ vibe but you still feel welcome. Even so, it’s 100% not a place I would take my girlfriend. The place is unlikely to attract people my age (under 30) unless they are geeky about beer.

There were 4 Borough ales and 2 guests on cask, as well as several keg options I didn’t look at. Halves and pints only (obviously, this is Neath). I tried 3 of their beers, 2 of which were solid offerings and 1 of which was in questionable condition. Only 2 bottled options today but from what the barkeep says it seems that they often have several available. Bottle takeaway is an option - I didn’t ask whether they offer a discount for this but prices are pretty reasonable anyway.

A brewpub styled very much in the Neath way. Having lived 17 years in the Neath locality, I didn’t think I’d ever see a brewpub on this soil. Exciting times. I hope that this pub does well and that it can expand to a more central location. “

32 /100 THE PARADE
“Famous for being the original meeting place of the WRU. Has an attached club and a cafe called ’Greens’. Very poor selection of beer when I visited - a couple of lagers on keg and one cask bitter. I had a decent floater coffee but a pretty terrible sticky toffee pudding! It was (confusingly) hard. Bar staff were curt but waitresses seemed nice.“

“Small Wetherspoon pub close to the train station which is dimly lit inside with a mix of traditional and funkier places to sit. There’s a very small patio area to the side of the building and the usual range of rotating ales are available.“
