“Visited in July 2023. Dungeon-like metal bar with a good selection of Qásek beers and some guests. Welcoming service in a metal kind of way. Didn't try eating.“

“Nice little metal bar in a quiet part of town. I particularly liked how the barman was prepared to sell us beer right before closing time, and then happy to clean up around us, and finally unlock the door for us to let us out - I haven't had a lock in like that for years. 10 taps, and this is a new unique brewery for me - win! They weren't all on top form, but several were very decent indeed. My kind of place.“

“This was very convenient for us, as we were staying just around the corner, but it's fairly close to one of the many centres in this town. Very much a craft beer bar mixed with a sterile cafe vibe. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. 6 taps, but not much variation in styles, at least in their house beers. One of the guest "beers" was a pure nonsensebrew. 300ml pours were about 45Kr, which is less than 2e. Fine.“

“Just off the main square, you can't miss it, at least during summer, as they have a nice big terrace. Teeny-tiny hot-side brew kit was visible from where we were sitting, I think the cold side may have been just round the corner too. That always improves the vibe for me. Has a /Happy Days/ kind of diner feel to it, nothing wrong in that. Staff were, erm, varied - the poor lass was running around doing everything for everyone, while the bloke managed to press two buttons on the till. Inoffensive piped music stops it from feeling sterile. House beers were very solid. This was the first venue in Czechia on this trip, after passing through Poland, and there was an immediate "ahhhh, we're in Czechia now" wave that passed over me as I sipped the first beer. Again, that's always welcome. There was a slight confusion over beer identities comparing the menu to the pump clips, but we worked out there were 3 house ticks for us. I walked out of here with a spring in my stride - nice place.“

“In the middle of the main square or one of them. They have 5 taps out of which 4 were available and out of them 3 were of their own. Quite slow service. Very basic English understood, non spoken. Beers were fresh and quite drinkable.“

“On Tuesday evening we were the only customers. It was comfy for us cause our hotel was just other side of the street. I could still smell all the smoke from past reeking from the walls? Or maybe someone was in backyard smoking after all? Qasek beers on tap, 10 of them, all beside couple in good condition. Barman was sleepy and didn't want to be here at all. Closing time was 22:00, but our beers were served 10 minutes before it without any warning. Still a good place to visit. They accept cards now.“

“It was just 400m from our hotel in an area what might be called a center. On the one of the main streets. Or maybe not. This city is bit weird. Anyway 6 taps, 4 of their own and 2 guest ones. 0.3l portions served, English spoken and no flights. Beers were good, but why would you put 3 APAs on at the same time?“

“Hypermarket, regional and national commercial breweries are represented. I found 3 new. Sometimes Tesco has a little craft beer shelf, but none here at my visit june 2022. Not a spot for craftbeer-hunters.“

“Easy to find, as across the street from my Hotel Maria. I said "I am from Mordor", and the heavy metal man froze.... and recommended a brand new dark strong Qasek 18 Dawe. Looks like they have ten taps now, 9 with their own Qaseks and one other. When sitting down in the main room, you are surrounded by beer bottles from craft brewers and some belgian quality beer bottles. Still a cash place.“

“Urquell-place with quick service, nice food, clean pilsner, classic pubbish / slight modern interior, and open bar desk. Three visible taps from my corner position. Pop music on low volume. Popular lunch place. Approved to average plus - slight premium.“

“Slezska P.U.O.R. at Kolejni 2 opens at 10:30 in weekdays, 11 in weekends, so it's a convienient place to have a solid lunch. Generous portions, fresh Urquell, classic interior. Maybe not very craftbeerish, but it works for it's purposes. Could pay by card.“

“Normally, I'm allergic to adding all these tank PU places (I mean, I could get a cheap tick from a place 5 mins walk from me), but this is supposed to be the best one in Ostrava, so there you go. And I ended up there with the Féher Nyul and Horizont guys, as FH's Máté was hyping the food here. :D One of their tapsters too won some award very recently, so another reason to be interested. Anywho, a pretty big, classically decorated place, with the enclosed bowling alley in the background (and all the related sounds). Pro staff, English spoken. Selection - all the mlíkos, šnyts and so on of PU + dark Kozel, Birell, Birell Pomelo and Volba Sládků (not available when we visited). The PU was good, not the best one of my life, but good shape. Food - my tripe soup was very tasty, and people really enjoyed their garlic soup (allegedly fantastic). My "pulled duck" (actually a duck leg, less than I expected) was tasty, a served with red cabbage, gnocchi and some sauce apparently - stickier and drier than expected, but nothing to complain about. The others enjoyed the ribs very much, likely a better choice. Solid portions from what I saw being carried around too - mine was slightly less than expected but actually did okay to fill me up. The food prices weren't bad by any means, Urquell was 49, so not the cheapest around, but far from the most expensive. Card payment available. All in all, good for having lunch at! “

“Well now this is an experience. Located in Martinov, at the northwest edge of Ostrava, it's a huge hotel-brewpub-pub-concert hall combo decorated in the weirdest, tackiest, most random assortment of paraphernalia - including random cars and half-cars (a fountain at the local pool is basically the front half od an old truck). In a glorified village, right next to a huge meat processing plant. There is a big patio with a children's playground, and the weirdest mural of Lemmy I've seen around. Very much American-inspired interior, overdone really (which is American in its own way and fun). I mean, there is a pink car in the middle of the main room. With a table inside it. :D The lone bartender wasn't speaking English though, though a helpful patron chimed in and helped the others (that weren't helped by me). They had their 10° and their 11° polotmavé, along with Urquell, Radegast 10° and Radegast 12° on tap. And some Birrels. A brewpub with more macro choices? Ah, we would soon see why. The 10° pale was a homebrewish mess with harsh bitterness, but I kinda managed to struggle through mine... the 11° polotmavé was very much heavily infected. It's not often that I see infected beers freely on sale on tap in brewpubs, but it was there. At least the prices were probably not too huge, 2 big pales, a big Radegast 12°, a small pale and a small dark and a Birell were I think less than 200 if I remember correctly. The place smells like a university cantina a little bit - classic food + burgers I guess. Máté, who's been here several times claims their 12° is the best of the bunch, but it sadly wasn't available, and it's certainly a good concert venue, but the experience with the beers they did have was below all expectations (and CZ standards). May be convinced to revisit, but if someone's driving. The abysmal beer quality dropped the rating of an otherwise fun place.“

“In the sprawling industrial-panelák-modern-old-nature randomness that is Ostrava, this renovated 16./17. century "château" with a nice inside courtyard is definitely a pleasant change of pace. Located in Zábřeh, a quarter (of course, almost 100 years ago a separate municipality) in the southwest of Ostrava, it has several parts - it's a hotel, then a restaurant that works only after 17 and a loft bar/restaurant that works since 11:30 and beer and wine spas. Of course, we visited the loft only, and sadly didn't stay for food. The interior, in dark browns, is pretty inviting and it was fairly full. We chose to sit outside. Helpful service in general, some speaking English, some not. 3 beers on tap + 1 in PETkas in the fridge (along with their nice liquid beer soap). The pale (45czk for a big one) sadly had light chlorophenols and not that on point even if we disregard that, the honey one (42 for 0.3) was out of balance and weird - but the dark lager was what it was supposed to be, well made in general. Wonder if Eliška 14° (95 CZK for a PETka) will be any good. Oh well. Well, out of the limited places we've visited in Ostrava, this was indeed the best one. I may revisit it if/when I revisit Ostrava and explore its food as well. I've balanced the overall out, given it a 0.1 more just in case.“

Barunka Special Bar (Restaurant)

“Looks like an old communist mess hall coupled with elements of a more traditional Czech hospudka. The looks ain't the thing where it shines. Good service, very good burgers but also very expensive, somehow not matching the slightly run down feel of the interior. Ten taps, with some good offerings to be had (Albrecht!). Basically one of three spots to go to in Poruba after having a splash at the terrific outdoor swimming pool that is located in this district.“

“Located on the main drag of Ostrava's Poruba district, this one is a restaurant with a modern design, good service, tasty (but expensive!) food and eight taps. While the taps with classic styles were poorly equipped (Morava beers from Frydek Mistek) and I also don't understand why Hoppy Dog is still being pushed so hard, there were a couple of more than decent brews to be had. Very nice place overall.“

“Rather typical Czech hospudka in the northern outskirts of Ostrava. Filled with locals, with a patio overshadowed by Ostravar umbrellas. The joke is, Ostravar is actually on tap and surpasses quality-wise their own offerings. Well, the Citra ale was quite allright. The food was quite good as well, as was the service and general atmosphere. Compared with other microbreweries in the region, this one does not live up to the standards I would expect, though.“

“One of the taprooms of Starobelsky Pivovar. Set in the rural southern part of Ostrava, near a church, it also hosts the annual Starobelsky Beerfest. The establishment has a nice big green patio and a run of the mill hospudka interior. Can't say anything about the food, but their unfiltered 12° ležák is excellent and absolutely worth a detour from the city center.“

“Probably the best (oh no carling!) pub in town. 8 taps with 2 poor imports but an excellent selection of Czech microbreweries local and as far away as Liberic! “Brewpub at the heart of Ostrava, easy to find the location, but it seems like basement. Heavy metal stuff all the way – some bikers, rock music, some drunken men. Good selection of Czech craft beers and other alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately I was buried in smoke, but locals were really friendly – thumbs up with good communication with bartender. Good point for drink all night.“

“Quite small place with a few taps from Qasek brewery. Cheap prices for a good beer. They even have an IPA, other is more classic stuff (svetlý ležák). I was there on Tuesday afternoon and they didn't serve any meal. Good communication with staff. In the long run worth to visit at all, suitable to share some glass with friends or exploration of Czech beer traditions.“

“Visited September 2017. Smallish restaurant with a bar, quite run o' the mill but definitely more agreeable than Hobit Club next door. Has a spacious outdoor area that you can reach by going through the restaurant. Friendly service, good place to sample microbrews from the region, especially the house beers (Qasek), some of which are really good. Recommended.“
