66 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI Not a very large selection of beers these days, but what they did have was pretty good. Was able to find a few collabs I had not scene on my 4 day trip in the area. Plus they have decent imports too. Grabbed a few lambics "fruit beers" to try with the wife. |
66 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI Close to one of the roundabouts on the main road through town, this off-licence has a fair selection of bottles on the shelves just beyond the till on the left hand side. It has an excellent focus on local bottled ales backed up with some decent enough international stuff. Well priced with Friendly and helpful staff. |
58 /100 Pen Cob (JDW) (Bar) STATION SQUARE Opposite the train station just before the causeway, this is a traditional looking Wetherspoon on the inside, quite long rather than deep, with the bar running against the back wall. It has two rows of ale pumps with a decent selection from the current ale festival on my visit. |
68 /100 Pen Cob (JDW) (Bar) STATION SQUARE Visited 28/7/17. Standard JDW fare in a nicely converted large building directly opposite the railway station at the end of the Cambrian Coast Line. Standard JDW 6 beers and 6 guests including 2 from the nearby Cwrw Llyn Brewery. Beer sampled was in good condition. Food was good and hot. Pub Busy but as the only decent place in Pwllheli it’s hardly surprising ! |
62 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI The beer selection is not going to impress a beer geek but as far as I know it’s the only place for a fair few miles where you can get anything none local and decent. Have some decent local bottled ales too. And you will want to spend money with the lovely people who work there. If you’re on holiday in that beautiful part of Wales and you forgot to bring anything, worth popping by. |
82 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI A recent name and owner change has done little to harm this place. Considering it’s location the selection is superb. Tons of local beer you see vary rarely and a pretty damn good selection from elsewhere. Usual Belgians and Americans plus a few more exciting bits like a couple from Cantillon, Rochefort 10, 3 Monts, Anchor Porter, etc etc. Lovely atmosphere. Always made very welcome, Dean and Margret are lovely folks. The relaxed snob free atmosphere makes you feel comfortable spending a while making a decision and having a good old browse. I always come away with a box full. If you also like wine their selection is superb and well priced. If you are visiting North Wales and need beer it is well worth the travel out to Pwllheli. It’s very easy to find once you get there as it is visible from the main car park in the town centre. |
70 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI A beer and wine store, nearly in the middle of nowhere.........Rather small, but well selected choice of real ale with the emphasis on welsh micro-brewers (e.g. Conwy); some beers from Belgium and Germany (among them the plastic brews ;-( from Warsteiner and Veltins) are also available. Worth a detour if You are travelling Snowdonia ! |
78 /100 Gwin Llyn Wines (Formerly Thirst for Beer) (Beer Store) UNIT 2, Y MAES, PWLLHELI This is a great place to buy your Welsh Micro Brewers beers. I couldn’t find a Web Site for them directly and I don’t think they ship, but they do have an extensive choice. If you are nearby then its worth popping in. |
