Luvians Bottle Shop (Beer Store)
66 MARKET STREET, ST. ANDREWS
“Stopped in here on recent post Scotland lockdown trip. Friendly staff that was very helpful. I was looking for local beers and they took me right to where I needed to be. Plenty of other stuff that was interesting, but I only had a small backpack. Worth a visit if in the area.“

“Visited Sept 2020. Decked out in typical Brewdog industrial style. Full menu available - burgers, wings, pizza, the lot. 25 taps split between Brewdog's own & guest beers.“

“One of two bars the brewery has in St Andrews. This is the original with a few outdoor seats and a beer hall upstairs. Good selection of their own beers and guest cask and keg beers and a good bottle/can selection. Very good service, food offers gluten free and vegan options. Nice place.“

“Something besides the golf is good here : this pub. In a shotgun style building, 15 taps, a good number of bottles, lots of local choices, enthusiastic bar keeps, good pub fare, flights available, ...all good for me. Worth seeking out.“

Luvians Bottle Shop (Beer Store)
66 MARKET STREET, ST. ANDREWS
“Medium sized place on Market Street in the centre of St. Andrews. Beer selection is very impressive with some rare imports and decent UK craft beer. The American selection alone is worth a visit (almanac, evil twin, ale smith, etc.). Also stock rare Brewdog beer with many special releases. Prices are a bit higher, but expected from the area. Go here if you visit St. Andrews and like beer!“

“Located very close to the city centre. Good pub atmosphere. A bit loud though. They let you try all the beers and they offer flights of 3 and 5 of beer and gin. Flights are 5,80 £, which is not bad. They have 6 mainstays and 6-8 guest beers. This is probably the best place to visit for beer in St Andrews.“

“Decent pub located in the town center. We’ve visited during lunch and it was very busy, picked the last free table. Good selection of real ale , around 15 pumps not sure if they were all on. Local ales available, good brews, but don’t expect anything too exciting. Food was good.“

“Since we were about to go on Highlands road trip we stopped here for beer supplies. Surprisingly good bottle shop located in town center. Lots of imports and UK craft beer as well as the local ones. Well worth visiting.“

“About 16 taps, including a bunch (8?) of cask (real ale) pumps. Friendly service. Quiet and mellow during an early evening visit. Easy to find -- located just outside the old stone arch over South Street.“

“As the name implies, this is primarily a wine shop. Nonetheless, they have an exceptional selection of craft beers, with the offerings leaning strongly towards quality and rarity rather than quantity. They had quite a few beers I’ve never seen before, even including some that, like me, were from the USA. . This is the second best selection of craft beer in town, after Luvians. Unfortunately, prices were notably high and some bottles were unpriced. “

“Well worth a visit for cheese, but probably not beer. On both visits I found only beers from Eden Mill. On the bright side, this is a fine brewery and this cheese shop had a couple of out-of-production but within date beers including the rare whisky barrel aged ale. Reasonable prices for the beers which are kept chilled.“

“Long and narrow venue with a medium size bar that has no stools. 8 cask ale taps in place but only 5-6 active (1 ale just kicked). 8 more keg taps, including some guest brews. Beers served in 1/3 and 2/3 pint sizes. Also claim 170+ bottled beers but far fewer evident in the visible cooler. Of course, there may well be additional coolers. Menu is more interesting than usual for a small brewpub. Will revise rating after a re-visit upon which I’ll try some food. Plenty of students, but atmosphere reflected graduate students, faculty and others rather than rowdy students.“

“Beers at room temperature just inside the door and arranged by style. More beer near counter and in coolers facing the counter. Helpful but not pushy staff. Mostly UK beers of course, but some impressive selections from Belgium (Fantome; Cantillon) and the US (Crooked Stave; Ale Smith).“

Criterion (Bar)
99 SOUTH ST,
“Should be renamed the "Pit". After arriving, I seemed to be shunned by the bar tender whilst some arrogant local clown started to goad me for a punch up. Before even being able to order, I felt compelled to complain. Immediately, some boozed up drunk at the bar snatched my wallet from my hand right in front of the bar tender. The bar tender did nothing but tell me it was all my fault for complaining and being fool enough to go in there. As my wallet was passed around the bar, I stated the intent to call the police. The old drunk at the bar said "Go ahead, but when you come back, it won’t be here and we’ll deny everything." The bar tender agreed. My wallet was fainally handed back and I was hurled out onto the street surface as various laughing 40+ year od yobbos put their feet out to try to trip me over or to kick me. I was told be the bar tneder never to come back or next time I would get a "good pasting".“

“Visited on 22 Nov 2009, a wet and windy Sunday evening. It was the end of Freshers Week or some other student drinking festival and the whole town was full of drunken youngsters, some in fancty dress others with make-up running down their faces due to the weather and their drunken condition. The bar was packed with students, you could just about get to the central Island bar and see the overworked staff trying to serve the drunken masses. You could get served on all four sides, or you could normally, if it hadn’t been over run, we stood by the beer engines, which were on two of the forementioned sides. The bar appeared to be made of dark wood and was fairly ornate, tables and chairs lined all four walls, some in mini-alcoves, box wall partitions between them. My mate and I ordered a couple of Real Ales and waited for a seat to become vacant. Half way down our pints we spied some people leaving and snaffled their seats. We then people/student watched for a good hour as they became more amd more bladdered, great fun. The staff were good, over worked but smiled and nodded in the right places and we even had a chat with one between her meal and starting work again, she was looking forward to knocking off! For the record the cask ales were: Belhaven ’St Andrews’, Adnams ’Broadside’, Deuchars ’IPA’ and Fullers ’London Pride’. So two Scottish and two English ales, didn’t take a note of the lager clips. We had three of the Real Ales, all were in good order. “

“Good enough food. Friendly staff, but I thought the cask selection was a bit too mainstream for my liking. There were only about six handpumps going when I was there and of that only one, which was interesting. Worth a visit, but not going to blow you away.“

“Very good place. Only three ales on offer, but very tastey and random stuff from all over the UK. Food is half decent and staff friendly. With the closing of Aikmens, this is now the place to visit in St. Andrews.“

Luvians Bottle Shop (Beer Store)
66 MARKET STREET, ST. ANDREWS
“The shop where I bought my bottled beers while visiting St Andrews for a fortnight. Far the best beer shop in town, though it is more devoted to wine than beer. In addition to a fair selection of Scottish beers, they also provide a few bottles from England, Belgium, Germany and USA. Friendly sales staff. The Central Bar is just on the opposite side of the street.“

“Friendly traditional pub located just outside the remains of the old city walls in St Andrews. Serves good lunchtime food, and seemed to be a very popular place among people of all ages at lunchtime. Three cask ales on offer that rotated very regularly. I had ales from Loddon and Inveralmond, among others. The staff is very polite, and let you taste the ales before you buy. Last visited 09.11.2008.“

“Central Bar became my haunt during 15 days in St. Andrews. Town centre pub with a varied clientele. Decent and qualified food menu. I can recommend both the breaded scampi and the salad bowl with chicken. Attentive service. Rather huge island bar with 12 handpumps, but only half of them in use. Usually there were some cask ales from Inveralmond brewery, among others the Central House Ale, 4.2% ABV. According to the brewery this is a beer specially produced for about six pubs throughout Scotland, only available in cask. The Luvians bottle shop is just on the opposite side of the pub.“

“A genuine free house with a bistro on the ground floor and a pub downstairs. Noisy, funny, different, and friendly. Three fast rotating cask ales on offer, all excellent beers found in very good condition. I had a few interesting ales from BrewDog, not to mention Witches Cauldron on Halloween. Good selection of Belgian, German and Polish bottled beers. Freshly made, tasty food. Polite and helpful service. Worn out, but still charming interior. Very unpretentious place that seemed to be popular with students. Visit several times during my stay in St. Andrews, late October and early November 08.“

“Excellent must visit place in st andrews, infact possibly one of the main reasons for me going there. When entering the chap not only says hey and asks where your from but generally asks if you want a glass of wine and when you say your here for beer you can see hes contimplating opening one for your visit. Good selection of harder to get beers and good belgiun selection. Nice place but why is it so far away from me!“

Luvians Bottle Shop (Beer Store)
66 MARKET STREET, ST. ANDREWS
“My local bottle shop. Nice to have a mill around without any pressure to buy. The beer rack nearest the window contains all sorts, huge selection of Scottish micros, some English beers, and a selection of some of the more obvious Belgian / Germans. Various islands around the store are stocked with macros for those without the accustomed tastebuds. Staff are quite knowledgeable, usually able to tell what’s coming in, and if they can get a certain beer you want. Selection varies, depends when they’re due an order, you can go in sometimes and have as little as 30 on the shelf, sometimes more than 90, but a goodish stock is maintained. Good place to shop, if a little pricey, good if you’re a wine drinker too, HUGE selection of those, spirits, cigars, occasional snacks, and if you’ve got money burning a hole, there’s the fine wine room, if you’re into some of the rare wines. Good place to visit, if you’re passing, just don’t expect anything stupidly rare.“

“Possibly one of my favourite pubs in St Andrews. The cellar and Aikmans are both unpretentious and sometimes have a folk band or similar on. Really friendly atmosphere. The staff are always nice and will talk at length about their ales, and let you try a sample of each before you buy, so you can make your mind up. They have several rarer ales and bottled beers, great selection.“
