26 /100 6 Pac Smokestack (Beer Store) 2077 US HWY 70 Just a cheap convenience store gas station with macro beers. Shouldn’t be in the database. 10/2022. |
54 /100 6 Pac Smokestack (Beer Store) 2077 US HWY 70 Odd little run down place on the strip between Asheville & Swannanoa, in between a gas station & smoke shop, tons of grease all over the parking spots. Place was added over a decade ago, zero rates & is still standing.
Bit of an L shape inside. Huge Voodoo Ranger banner across the top of the entire back. Soda machines, jerky, even a frostee machine. Tons of coolers that start out soda, turn to wine & finally beer. Four solid doors worth of legit locals before it turns to malt liquor. Locals are nothing fancy, but lots of little brands besides SN & NB. Once at the end, there's a little dedicated craft beer walk in, but sadly only one shelf is craft beer, the rest is Busch & Modelo storage. Prices range between $2-3 for tallboys to $13 six packs.
Honest spot if you're in between towns or it's Sunday & the bottle shops are closed. |
78 /100 Native Kitchen and Social Pub (Restaurant) 204 WHITSON AVENUE Small recycled place is comfortable and quiet at lunch. Menu is only one page, but the food is an excellent selection of rotating and innovative pub fare. I had the catfish reuben, my companions had shrimp po boy sandwich and duck and gouda pizza. All were excellent. Most items are from local sources, including the 12 beers on tap. Service was great and knowledgeable about both the menu and the beer. About two minutes off I-40 and an excellent alternative to getting caught up in the Asheville tourist scene. Prices were great for the quality of the fare. |
