“Stopped by here to share some beers with a buddy. Good times. Big place, dark, dark wood. Staff was at first overly agressive, but then pretty friendly. Several beers on tap. Quality is not great, but very good. I tried three beers across different styles (porter, kolsch, cucumber lime kettle sour). All drinkable. Food menu looked good, but I had just eaten. Prices overall good. Nice looking patio. Good COVID protocols. I picked this place because it looked like maybe the best Wausau brewery. While I don't know that I'm right, I'm definitely not wrong. Wausau isn't exactly a beer mecca but if you're here, stop at Red Eye.“

“Well, the selection is still good, but it's gone downhill since muzzlehatch's review 4 years ago. Still there is a decent selection, a walk-in with a few larger format bottles, and a small but well stocked BYO 6 pack section. Probably can't do any worse in Wausau.Cashier was friendly. Prices decent.“

“Good food and decent beer. Biking ambiance inside. Had a sampler of their beers to go with my meal. Nice staff, good selection of their own brews. Would visit again the next time Jess and I visit Brandon and Monica in Wausau.“

“Stopped in on a Wednesday shortly after noon. Got a flight - standard 4 4-ounce pours. I heard that they have outstanding food, but I wasn’t hungry. I would have loved the place, but the beer just did nothing for me.“

“Large bistro feel to the place with a decent sized patio and slightly swanky feel to the place. Service was good and our waitress manged that whiled dealing with a table who asked their bill to be split 12 ways... 10+ beers on tap with samplers available. Food was great, the morel mushroom burger (sadly a special) was out of this world. Prices are decent. Well worth a stop if you are anywhere near.“

“Large, airy gastro pub with a slightly upscale feel. Beers on offer numbered about 10 and focused old world styles. The beer was surprisingly quite good - the wit and kolsch being standout examples of styles that I generally don’t enjoy. The food looked great - the menu emphasized farm to table cooking and was surprisingly adventurous. This isn’t a brewpub that mails in wings and garbage pizza. Service was quick and professional. Overall, a really nice spot. This place could compete in a crowded market, not just Wasau, Wisconsin.“

“First two visits, July-August 2016. I’ve been to the Rhinelander and Eagle River Trig’s - both astonished me with their selection (relative to this thinly-populated area) in previous years, and this year I was astonished again. A dozen selections from The Bruery, lots of Perennial, somewhat more obscure products from Rogue and Southern Tier, Toppling Goliath, etc. There’s a walk-in with about 100-120 single bombers and 750s of nearly all interesting stuff, and hundreds of four-packs, six-packs and larger packages in two rows of coolers plus a bit of non-refrigerated stuff. Just about any Wisconsin beer that’s available in the north part of the state is going to be here and lots of other local Midwestern stuff - Surly and Tallgrass among them - as well. No, it won’t blow you away if you’re used to a world-class big-city selection, but for an area like this it’s Manna from Heaven. If there’s a better selection in the north central part of the state I’d like to see it. Fairly helpful service as well, at least on my two visits.“

“A pretty standard brewpub in a large space. A good sized patio drawfed by two large seating areas and two large bars with TVs scattered throughout the place. A bit dark overall. Service was a bit slow considering the place was dead but nothing too bad. 10ish beers on tap and a couple to go. Food was decent brewpub fare. Prices were middle of the road. Nothing special here.“

“First visit today for a late lunch & beer. Not a bad place inside - clean and spacious, closer to a "modern-industrial" look than anything else - right across the street from a gun shop, that might add (or detract) from the experience... Taps included 8 of their own, and 5 guests - one of which was a brand-new sour from Tallgrass, so they’re trying to keep up with cool stuff. The Red Eye brews included a good sour of their own, a very good kolsch and rye porter, a solid IPA, and less-stellar but mostly competent renditions of quad, dunkelweizen, schwarzbier and dubbel - no lightweights here. The food menu is eclectic and creative by brewpub standards for sure with several vegetarian and vegan options, several interesting-looking pizzas, and barbecue among other items. I had a beer-cheese-mushroom soup that was good and BBQ brisket with a quite spicy house sauce that was excellent, and we all shared one of the best pieces of carrot cake I’ve had. Service was super-nice and patient (we had two very loud little girls with us). All around excellent and worth going out of the way for.“

“Located right off of the highway. The ambiance is fantastic but the service can be hit or miss. The beer is for the most part decent. The food is very good.“

“Tried to get a dinner reservation through Open Table for a Sunday in January, but they were booked after 4pm. Might have had something to do with the fact that the Packers were playing a playoff game starting at 7:15pm, although with only one large screen TV behind the bar, most of their restaurant seating is not conducive to TV viewing. Luckily I called and they were able to get me in at 6:45pm. Glad I went! I was extremely impressed by the beers. I had a 6 beer sampler, including 2 IPAs and a hop forward rye. Four of the 6 beers were truly winners and the other two were solid. If you picked this place up and dropped it into the Twin Cities, I’m convinced it instantly becomes a top 5-8 brewery. The food tends toward the foodie, which is good. Shrimp skewer appetizer was excellent, the red eye beer & brie soup as well, and the Locavore woodfired pizza outstanding. Growlers are available for purchase, and I did. Highly recommended!“

“Good sized space. Clean and up to date. Super friendly. Excellent food. All the beers very good to great. No duds. There were no "this is good enough so lets throw that out there to expand our tap list" beers. Its apparent the brewer takes pride in crafting quality beers. Would certainly go back.“

“Love the look to the place. The beer selection was good, but no dark beers. We only had one dish so we really dont know how good or bad the food really is, but we thought it satisfactory. Definitely impressed by the bartender and his knowledge of the beer. Would recommend you check it out.“

“Nice addition to downtown Wausau and just a mile south of Athletic Field, home of the Woodchucks (a college-level wooden bat baseball team). Brewpub has a large bar with ample seating, and there are separate indoor and outdoor dining areas. Seven taps were dedicated to Red Eye’s brews (with excellent printed menus and chalkboards to explain them) and three guest taps were also available. It looked like there was a fair top-shelf liquor selection, too. All sandwiches ordered by our group were well-received. Waitstaff very friendly and knowledgeable about their products.“

“Great spot. Industrial vibe, extremely friendly staff, and high-def TVs over the bar. Cool bikes hanging from the ceiling, for which I got the background story (ask if you are there). Pizza was flat-out killer, and the beers were very good.“

“Nice spot - stopped in here just as they opened on Thursday, 9/1/11 @ 11 AM. Main bar was still closed, but the 2nd bar was open. Pretty much had the place to myself. Nice atmosphere - wooden decor. You can see the brewing equipment outside the windows. High-def TV’s over the bar. They had 12 of their beers on tap (1 was nitro), plus one beer engine. Flights are available at $1.50/beer. Bartender was friendly enough.“

“I stopped here on my way up north. Conveniently located just off the freeway. I had the IPA and it was decent. This place sort of had a large chain atmosphere (which is not to my liking). Food and restrauant was available but I chose not to eat as I was headed to Antigo next to have dinner with some relatives. Good stop on the way north, but not worth going out of your way to see.“

“Went here on a ski trip to Granite Peak. The place is located downtown Wausau, looks pretty new and up to date. Big roomy place with one big flat screen TV over the bar. Six tap of thier own brew, no guest taps. Selection was Stout, Brown ale, Dubbel, Belgian Wit, and a special Scotch ale. Love the sampler option, pirce ($4 for 5, but the server gave me 5 for $5) and the size of them 4oz sample was a steal. All decent with the dubble and stout being my fave and the scotch and brown ales being the least likable. Taht day they were out of the IPA but was able to find it at the ski lodge anyway. The food was really good, love the burger and liked the pizza (a bit soft on the crust). The service was excellent, the server screwed up the pizza order but quickly took care of it by giving us the screwed up pizza for free and the pizza we ordered for free as well. Total for 2 pizzas, a burger , 5 sample brews, and a 12oz Dubble was just under $20. Really enjoyed this place, would have like to see a bigger selection of brews but for the location this place is great.“

“Friendly wait staff right from the get-go and a warm and inviting interior. They only had seven beers on tap, but most of those were very good and I’ll take quality over quantity every day. Some of the best brews I’ve had at a brewpub in Wisconsin. Food menu is a bit different, but different is good in my book. Parmesan crusted tater tots were damn good! They’ve recently expanded their menu to include more than just pizza. A hidden gem that’s too far from home, but I plan on returning soon.“

“Located right off of I-39 in Wausau, the ’Dane’ was a excellent stop when heading up North. Great ambiance with adequete but somewhat sub-dued lighting. The food was excellent - I had a salmon/bacon honey glaze sandwich. We also ordered a loaf of dark beer bread with honey butter. The micro-brew beer was also excellent. We are definitely planning another visit when we are in the area.“

“My husband & I stopped here on a driving trip, so we didn’t get to sample more than one beer each. The beers were beautifully executed, but the selection was pretty limited. We had a choice of 5 beers, two of which were wheat, and the next seasonal was also a wheat. Since wheat is our least favorite type of beer, we chose a dubbel and an IPA, both of which were really nicely executed. The real find here was the food - basically just a pizza place, the pizza we had was the best we’ve eaten outside of Italy, and the salad was terrific! Our waitress told us that they try to shop as much as possible from the local farmers market and other local sources. The quality and care taken with the food was obvious. Service was outstanding, especially since our server knew her beers. A really great place!“

“Really large restaurant/pub with different rooms, depending on what mood you’re in. You have the restaurant area, then the bar area with pool tables and whatnot. Good vibe and setting. Large, interesting food and beer menu. All the food looked good, but wasn’t as impressive as it sounded. We both had different bison burgers and both were mediocre. Cole slaw and bbq beans were boring. Soups were good. We each did sampler paddles of beers and on average didn’t think highly of most of them. The IPA and APA were our favorites, but not the greatest beers ever. Most had a weak mouthfeel and taste. I would come here again and give it another shot just because there is a lot to try.“

“Stopped by for dinner on a Sunday evening when I was in town skiing. I researched restaurants and beer in the area beforehand and made a point to go here. It was not busy so we had great service. Great simple menu with not so simple food. Everything sounded and was delicious. Not your typical "bar food." Food presentation was also nice. Only beer available was a few from the brewery, which was ok for us, but if we lived in the area I think we’d want guest taps. Pretty bright and open setting with no unique interior design. I would definitely go here again.“

“I actually visited this place last January. When I was there on a weekday night, the place was pretty dead. The beers were good though, and the staff was friendly. Certainly worth visiting if you’re in the neighborhood.“

“Visited for lunch on a Sunday in February as part of WinTour 3. They were cleaned out of two of the five beers on the menu and the food menu was a bit sparse, but the service was friendly, the food was good, the beers were good and the atmosphere was pretty neat too. Side note: they told us where to go to check out their "competetors." I love small town brewpub culture.“

“I love this place! The beer menu is kind of scant but their Imperium double IPA was amazing. The food was also great. Our service was wonderful. The set up of the place is as if they’re trying to be more up scale or modern yet it is open and relaxing. The music was not too loud and was right for the environment. If you’re in the area you should definitely pay this place a visit.“

“FIRST VISIT: Slightly hard to find as it is just off the main drag, and Wausau’s downtown has quite a few one-way streets: nice, clean, minimal interior with a small, well-kept patio seating area outside: food menu isn’t particularly extensive but is certainly delicious and offers a variety of choices that are far superior to basic pub fare: beer menu isn’t extensive either, but what’s there is interesting. I had a great time at the Red Eye Brewpub, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s in the area. My Cowboy panini was dynamite, and the wood-fired pizzas looked great. They sell samplers that are about twice the size of a normal sampler glass for $1.50 apiece, which I thought to be an excellent deal, and growler fills were $9. The beers ranged from slightly above average to great, and the brewmaster seems to be very interested in taking risks and keeping a rotating selection. Actually, I’m quite surprised to see that this place hasn’t made it on the list here yet as there was a sizable crowd there for a Friday at 2:00pm, but I guess they did just win the best undiscovered spot award from the local paper.“
