“If you come here expecting a quaint old Cider House on the border of Herefordshire serving a full array of the cider delights the region has to offer, you may be a little disappointed. I heard about this almost mythical place from friends, then read about it online as one of the last true remaining Cider Houses in the country. Well.. if it once was it’s certainly not anymore. On entering it’s clear it’s a pretty average run-down pub with fruit machine blaring next to the bar and locals staring uncomfortably.

I ordered the house cider which looked and tasted exactly like Cheddar Valley. The bargirl goes to check, and returns saying "yes it’s Cheddar Valley. It’s on sale at the moment, that’s why we put it on our pump." I try the house perry, which also tasted like sparkling commercial perry. Couldn’t be bothered asking what it actually was. The only other draft cider option was Westons GK, normally for sale in 3 litre ’tramp juice’ bottles. I asked what bottles they had and the bargirl looked forlornly at the fridge where a solitary bottle of Thatchers ’Katy’ stood next to 2 cans of diet coke and 1 bottle of Appletiser. A ’cider house’ on the border of Herefordshire and no local cider whatsoever? There’s even a brown sign pointing passing tourists towards it off the road. I have never been anywhere so shockingly mis-managed and mis-represented in my entire life. I wouldn’t normally add a place such as this, but I hope it will act as a warning to others who may plan to make a trip over to this place. I’d head down to Bristol instead.
