76 /100 9-11 MIDDLE LEIGH Visited with Margie on 18th April 2024. Great little set up, cider press and sheds towards the rear of the yard and the shop too your left. The shop has barrels of Hecks on the floor for refills and new containers, shelves of their and other local ciders in bottles and a selection of bottled beers. Cheese and veg too. Lovely place all round, will be re-visiting when in the area. |
92 /100 9-11 MIDDLE LEIGH Lovely rustic cider barn / farm shop situated within the village of Street, that's been around a fair while, since 1841 in fact. We arrived to see Mr Hecks himself, and his son, working away around the back, but stopped what they were doing without much fuss to help with our purchases from the shop. An impressive selection of around 15-20 ciders available from the barrel, with samples available of any we were interested in. A few fridges full of fresh farm shop produce, a bit more old school than, say, Perrys, Sheppys or even Richs cider shops, fresh eggs and honey on the counter, lots of vegetables dotted about, some cheese, a few local real ale bottles. Mr Hecks is affable and down to earth, extremely helpful with samples, talking through the apple character of the single varietals. Prices good. Definitely one of the 'proper' cider barns, with some of the best cider in the region. |
