“In the village of Salt, which is not too far out of Stafford with just a half dozen or so fields separating it from its larger urban neighbour, this thatched roof pub hides a modern extension to it in line with the modern houses that have been built opposite it on the other side of the road. It’s still a hub in the expanding village and food is a major reason people arrive here. The service area is oddly positioned against the front wall which would be the place in most pubs that commands the best view. It’s quite small so expect a queue at busy food times as you order here. There’s seats in areas either side of this and more in the modern extension area at the back of the building, however it’s all kitted out the same with traditional soft furnished surroundings and wooden tables and chairs so you’ll not notice any difference in this respect. The large garden area at the rear has plenty of circular wooden tables and a paved section with a purpose built brick outdoor stove area for event cooking. You’ll find several ales here which will probably have a Marston’s bias to them, but guests are available too. There were a couple of craft cider options here as well.“
