“In a similar fashion to the other deli in town, this place drew me in due to the sign outside advertising their own in-house craft IPA and Pils. Turned out these were both brewed by local twig merchants for hire Crafty. So didn't bother with them. However the smaller array of beer compared to the Peppered Pear Pantry nevertheless compliments it as they stock different breweries. Unity were the one of note for me, alongside a mixture of craft and local twig. Otherwise this place is more of a coffee shop that also offers meze food. A small deli shopping area. Obviously popular because when we left there wad a queue to get in. The beers/shop area is towards the rear where they is also an open kitchen area. The chef was chatting to some locals and I could have done without him showing off and using 'fuck' about 20 times in earshot of my 6 year old. What a cu....“

“In search of a lunch venue we passed this shop and I spotted a chalkboard advertising 'craft beer'. Wondered to myself if this translated as twiggy stuff from local micros and my initial reaction was that I was correct.... on walking in the first beers I saw were from Firebird and Crafty. Zzzzz. However I then scanned across the selection and saw the 50 or so cans and bottles included offerings from the likes of Cloudwater, Beer Hut and Beak. In fact the stock was 95% modern beer and only a few twiggy options. The owner came over to see if I needed help and was pretty knowledgeable about the beers. Although it did surprise me when she described Missing Link as a local brewery - my Hampshire roots mean I never think of West Sussex as local. Only stopped on briefly but definitely the place to head to in Godalming.“

“Have been meaning to visit this place for years but Godalming is not a town we ever come to. However with a few hours to spare between pumpkin picking and a kids Halloween party we stopped in town for lunch. Which was good because I'd only just seen that this pub was now brewing beer out back. For some reason I was expecting a larger pub but it is in fact quite narrow and olde worlde. A small serving area led to a queue having to form. 6 casks but none of their own on. However I then spotted some.casks in a rear area. This is narrow covered passage extension that has some seating down one side and leads to another room, which features a serving hatch. They had a Halloween beer fest on amd two of their beers were out here. I guess this area is only used for events but I know they always have a load of ciders available so perhaps it's permanent due to the lack of space up front. There is then a garden. To the left and rear which is primarily paved over. Pub was full. People who'd ordered food were struggling to find somewhere to sit. I liked the place. Even my tea total Goadalming dwelling colleague was saying it's their go to pub. The landlord was serving out back and was very keen to discuss the new brewery. They'd also gone full-on with Halloween decor... the animatronic Death certainly scared one kid!“

“A characterful pub in the town centre with an interesting selection of ales, some of which are brought direct from the cellar.“

“Town-centre pub, part of the normally banal Greene King portfolio but far from the chain’s norm. There’s a sense of community about the place and the beer selection, eclectic on occasion, ensures that the clientele is relaxed and interesting. Beer condition normally spot-on. Bar staff are normally polite and knowledgable. 10 minutes walk from Godalming’s Rail Station and 5 minutes from Record Corner (for the benefit of music geeks)...“

“Located in the heart of Godalming, around a 5 minute walk from the BR station, the Star dates from the early 19th century and holds plenty of character in this respect. A real locals feel to the clientele base but I’ve never felt unwelcome on my visits here. 8 hand pumps adorn the bar usually split between real ale and cider. They run regular festivals to take account of both of these products. The usual macro keg stuff lives side by side. Good trad boozer with an ever changing range of guest beers which are listed on their website (although these can be a little out of date!).“
