“On the main road that bypasses Halifax to its South, this pub is right at the foot of the Calder Valley making it a prime focus for the locals here as the next nearest place would be a significant walk up the steep residential hill that is immediately to the north of the crossroads this pub sits on. It’s easily spotted from the road and has a car park which means it’s a feasible stopping point if you are travelling through this part of the valley, although it has a town pub feel to it rather than the country despite the rolling hills and hillside fields that are aplenty on the southern side of the canal and river. This place shows live sport and has several real ale pumps that mainly serve ales from West Yorkshire including from the Timothy Taylor brewery in Keighley. There’s a pool table here as well as a darts board above the fireplace with cosy seating directly in front of the bar. The garden area overlooks the traffic junction.“

“Located on the southern side of Halifax in a low-rise residential area just before the hill that leads down to the River Calder. The pub is on the main road but its entrance is at its side. The bar meets you as you enter and is central to proceedings. The pub is part traditional in style although all the chairs are leather backed with wooden tables in front. There is a priority for customers wanting food with these tables. These are mainly at the front of the ground floor area, towards the rear a pool table occupies a large part of the area which is slightly bigger than the front. Real Ales include two Timothy Taylor brews as permanent and Elland Eden, with another Elland rotating.“
